Serbia Launches New Electronic Visa System
Serbia introduces a streamlined Digital Travel Authorization (DTA) system, eliminating the need for in-person embassy visits for eligible travelers and enhancing border entry procedures.
Update as of June 16, 2025: The online portal is now fully operational and accepting Digital Travel Authorization (DTA) applications!
Serbia is set to launch a new electronic visa system, designed to allow eligible travelers to apply for visas online, streamlining entry procedures before their trip. The official online platform, Welcome to Serbia, eliminates the need to visit an embassy or consulate, simplifying the process for foreign visitors.
The initiative follows a March 19 government announcement highlighting collaboration between Serbia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bureau of Information Technologies and E-Administration. The agreement—signed by Marko Đurić, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mihail Jovanović, Director of the Bureau—focuses on upgrading and maintaining the visa information system.

Officials have confirmed that the online visa application system and the Welcome to Serbia portal have been operational since February of last year. The initiative also underscores the role of state data centers in ensuring cybersecurity and data protection. Jovanović noted the success of the Foreigners Portal, which has processed 43,961 applications for temporary residence and work permits to date. Further enhancements are underway in preparation for Expo 2027 Belgrade.
While many countries are exempt from visa requirements for short stays in Serbia, citizens of certain African, Asian, and Middle Eastern countries still require a visa. Travelers are advised to check the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website or the nearest diplomatic mission for specific entry requirements based on nationality. Additional updates to the online visa system are anticipated.
Are Europeans Affected?
Currently, EU nationals do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days, provided they travel with a valid passport or national ID card for the entire duration of their stay. With the new Serbian government announcement, travelers are encouraged to verify entry procedures in advance to ensure a smooth journey.
