Spain no longer requires health form for travelers

Spain has eliminated the need for foreign travelers to complete or present the health control form upon arrival, effective September 20, 2022.

Spanish authorities have announced that foreign travelers are no longer required to fill out or present the health control form upon arrival in Spain.

The announcement was made by Spain’s Ministry of Health, and the change officially took effect on September 20.

"As of Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the Spain Travel Health portal, both the website and mobile apps, will no longer be operational. It will no longer be necessary to complete the health control form to travel to Spain or to present the QR code at the airport of arrival," the Ministry of Health stated in an official release.

Previously, the health control form—which indicated whether a traveler had been vaccinated, recovered, or tested negative for COVID and included additional data—had to be completed online before arrival in Spain by all travelers who did not hold an EU Digital COVID Certificate or an EU-recognized equivalent.

Upon arrival in Spain, travelers had to present the document to airport or port authorities to gain entry. However, Spanish authorities have determined such measures are no longer necessary to control COVID-19 spread in the current favorable context. This means all travelers, regardless of origin, no longer need to complete the form.

While Spain has scrapped the health control form requirement, authorities have extended until November 15 the obligation for travelers to present a vaccination, recovery, or test certificate upon arrival—without the health form.

Additionally, travelers in Spain remain required to wear face masks on planes and trains during their stay. No such mask mandate applies when visiting public spaces.
