To recap, the ETA is a document required by certain destinations to fly into their territory. This new long-stay electronic authorization is being offered by Sri Lankan authorities to boost tourism in the country. Available for $35, it permits single entry into the country.
The trial period runs until July 2023. In the meantime, Sri Lanka’s 30-day ETAs remain available.
The ETA was introduced in 2012 to simplify the visa process and attract more foreign tourists. Prior to the ETA, international travelers had to visit a Sri Lankan embassy or consulate to secure a visa. The ETA has streamlined the process, enabling travelers to apply online prior to departure.
Tourism is a key sector of Sri Lanka’s economy, playing a crucial role in revenue generation. The ETA helps attract more foreign visitors, increasing tourism income and supporting the country’s broader economy. The ETA also facilitates business travel and supports trade between Sri Lanka and other countries. The system allows business travelers to arrange trips more easily and focus on achieving their commercial objectives.
