Check-Mig remains the only document required to travel to Colombia
Colombia drops all Covid-19 entry rules except the mandatory Check-Mig health form, simplifying travel for visitors and positioning the country as a digital-nomad favorite.
Good news for travelers headed to Colombia: since Thursday, 4 May 2023, no proof of Covid-19 vaccination has been required to enter the South American nation, IATA confirms.
What entry rules remain for Colombia?
The sole lingering Covid-era measure is the online health declaration Check-Mig, which must be completed on arrival in Colombia.
Check-Mig is an online system run by Colombia’s migration authority, Migración Colombia, to monitor inbound and outbound travel. It is accessible at https://www.migracioncolombia.gov.co/check-mig.
International visitors are expected to fill out the form before entering Colombia. It collects data on the traveler, passport details, itinerary, Colombian residence address, and other relevant information. After submission, travelers receive a confirmation code to present to immigration officers upon arrival.
The process is free of charge and intermediaries are not permitted; Covid-19-specific questions have been removed. Travelers should aim to submit the form at least 72 hours before arrival.
Who can travel to Colombia without a visa?
With the exception of countries in Africa (excluding Morocco), the Middle East, and continental Asia, most nationalities can visit Colombia visa-free for up to 90 days. Those who do require a visa can apply online.
Colombia’s growing appeal for remote workers
According to Colombia’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, the country welcomed around 4.5 million international visitors in 2019—an increase on previous years—and tourism generated roughly USD 6.7 billion in revenue, accounting for about 3.3 % of the country’s GDP.
But it is remote work that Colombia now hopes to highlight. The digital-nomad visa, introduced in recent months, could help the country stand out among neighbors such as Peru, Brazil, and Argentina, according to Visamundi.
