Cook Islands to Launch e-Visa System in September 2024
The Cook Islands will introduce an electronic visa system in mid-September 2024, simplifying travel for business and long-term visitors while integrating with arrival-check technology at Rarotonga Airport.
The Cook Islands, a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand, is set to take a major step toward modernizing its immigration procedures. The Cook Islands government has announced the impending launch of a new electronic visa system, slated for mid-September 2024. Initiated in 2022, this initiative aims to streamline and expedite visa applications for international visitors.
How the Cook Islands’ e-Visa system will work
Travelers will be able to submit their Cook Islands e-visa applications online, eliminating the need to visit an embassy or consulate. The secure platform will allow applicants to complete forms, upload required documents, and pay visa fees directly.
Visa categories covered
The system will support applications for the following categories:
Tourist visa
Business visa
Residence permit
This comprehensive rollout covers both short-term and residency applications, accommodating a wide range of travel needs.
Phased rollout and technological integration
The electronic visa system is being implemented in stages. It will first undergo internal testing before being introduced to select countries, with plans to gradually expand access to all eligible travelers.
Rarotonga International Airport, the islands’ primary entry point, will be equipped with systems to verify e-visas on arrival, streamlining border control efficiency for visitors.
