Ecuador Introduces E-Visas and Online Apostilles for Travelers
Ecuador has rolled out digital visas and electronic apostilles, streamlining travel and legal document processes for international visitors.
Ecuador has taken a major step toward modernizing its immigration and legalization procedures by launching a new e-visa and online apostille system. Developed by Ecuador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, this initiative is designed to simplify and expedite visa acquisition and document authentication for international travelers.
How to Obtain an Ecuadorian E-Visa
The e-visa application process is fully online via https://serviciosdigitales.cancilleria.gob.ec/, eliminating the need to visit an embassy or consulate in person. The key steps include:
Creating an account on the official platform
Selecting the appropriate visa type
Completing the online application form
Uploading required supporting documents (passport, police certificate, etc.)
Paying visa fees electronically
Submitting the application for review
Receiving the approved e-visa by email
This streamlined process significantly shortens processing times, allowing travelers to receive their visas in as little as a few business days.
Available E-Visa Types
The new system supports multiple visa categories, including tourism, business, study, and work visas. Below is a summary of the primary e-visa options currently available:
Visa Type | Validity Period | Fee (USD) | Processing Time |
|---|---|---|---|
Tourism | 90 days | 50 | 2–3 business days |
Business | 180 days | 100 | 3–5 business days |
Study | 1 year | 150 | 5–7 business days |
Work | 2 years | ||
200 | 7–10 business days |
Countries Eligible for Ecuador’s E-Visa
The e-visa system is currently accessible to nationals of the following countries: Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Congo, North Korea, Côte d'Ivoire, Cuba, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Haiti, India, Iraq, Iran, Kenya, Libya, Mali, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, DR Congo, Senegal, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yemen.
Travelers from most Western nations—including the United States, Canada, and the majority of European countries—do not require a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days per calendar year.
Electronic Apostille System
Alongside the e-visa, Ecuador has also introduced a digital apostille platform, hosted on the same portal. This service enables users to request and receive apostilles for official documents entirely online. The process involves:
Submitting an apostille request via the online portal
Uploading the document to be apostilled
Paying apostille fees electronically
Document review by authorities
Receipt of the electronic apostille
The electronic apostille is legally valid and recognized by all countries party to the 1961 Hague Convention.
