Egypt to Restore E-Visa for Canadians
Egypt will soon reinstate its e-visa program for Canadian travelers after suspending it in October 2023, easing entry for visitors to iconic sites like the Pyramids of Giza.
Last October, Egypt suspended Canadian travelers' ability to obtain an online visa or one upon arrival. The move sparked concerns among Canadians eager to visit Egypt’s archaeological wonders without burdensome delays. Fortunately, a recent update arrives as welcome news: the electronic visa (e-visa) for Canadians is set to return.
The October 2023 suspension took many by surprise. Prior to that, Egypt offered a straightforward e-visa option for roughly $35 per person—an accessible, efficient way to enter the country. It removed the need for last-minute consular visits or tedious queues at Egyptian airports, streamlining travel plans for tourists from Canada.
Without this option, Canadians were forced to secure visas in advance. This not only added unexpected costs but also introduced greater complexity into trip planning and itineraries.
Diplomatic talks pave the way forward
Change began when high-level diplomatic discussions took place between Egyptian and Canadian authorities. Canada’s Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly met with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to address the suspended e-visa program. During the meeting, Mr. Abdelatty signaled optimism, stating that Egypt was seriously considering lifting the restriction on Canadian e-visas.

Such diplomatic engagement is far more than public relations—it plays a pivotal role in shaping immigration policies and fostering smoother international travel. This is a clear case of how open dialogue can lead to tangible, positive outcomes for travelers.
Why the e-visa makes sense
Choosing an e-visa delivers undeniable benefits for Canadian travelers:
Streamlined application: Complete everything online with a simple form and required document upload.
Time-saver: No need to visit a consulate or wait in line at the airport.
Affordable: At about $35, it’s a cost-effective alternative to other visa routes.
Flexibility: Perfect for those making last-minute travel decisions.
