Egypt Extends Validity of Existing Canada e-Visas Past October 1 Cutoff
Canada e-Visas for Egypt issued before October 1, 2023, remain valid past the new October 1 passport-stamp ban. New in-person filing required for all later applications.
The Egyptian government has just issued an important update for Canadian passport holders planning a trip to the land of the pharaohs: starting 1 October 2023, Canadians will no longer be able to apply for an Egypt e-Visa.
Why the change?
The Embassy of Egypt in Ottawa has confirmed that Canadians will lose e-Visa eligibility after 1 October 2023. The move is part of a broader set of new directives aimed at tightening entry controls on foreign visitors.
What if I already have an e-Visa?
According to the Embassy of Egypt in Ottawa, any e-Visa issued to a Canadian before 1 October 2023 remains valid until its stated expiry date—no action needed for travellers who already secured theirs for upcoming trips.

New visa application process
From 1 October 2023, would-be visitors will submit visa applications directly through Egyptian authorities via a new dedicated form that launches on the same date.
New application form: A fresh digital form will go live on 1 October 2023 for all future Egypt visa requests.
In-person lodgement: Canadians must appear in person at the Embassy of Egypt in Ottawa—or use an authorised visa service—to submit the new paperwork.
What travellers should do now
Canadians scheduled to visit Egypt should adjust their plans to allow for the new in-person filing requirement, additional government fees and a processing window that may differ from the old e-Visa timeline.
