Electronic visaSince 19 March 2023, nationals of more than 100 countries โ including France, Belgium, Switzerland and Canada โ are required to obtain an e-Visa to enter Jordan. This fully-fledged electronic visa is applied for entirely online, with no consular visit required: you receive an official PDF document by email, which must be printed and presented on arrival. It covers tourist stays, business trips, transit and family visits, with one or two entries depending on the option chosen. Here is everything you need to know to prepare your application with confidence.
01 ยท The essentials
The e-Visa application is completed entirely online, with no consular visit required โ valid for all available options.
The passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the planned entry date into Jordan, with at least one blank page.
The official platform is available in English only, and communications from the authorities arrive in Arabic, which requires planning ahead.

The Jordanian e-Visa is a fully-fledged electronic visa โ not to be confused with a travel authorisation (ETA) reserved for visa-exempt nationals. For the nationalities concerned (including France, Belgium and Switzerland), the e-Visa is the official means of entry into Jordanian territory.
The residence permit is granted by the Jordanian authorities via the internet. The document received by email as an official PDF must be printed and presented on arrival at the entry point โ Queen Alia airport, Sheikh Hussein bridge or another recognised border crossing.
Two options are available: the Single-entry e-Visa (valid for one entry into the territory) and the Double-entry e-Visa (allowing two border crossings). In both cases, the maximum authorised length of stay is 90 days.
02 ยท Eligibility
The Jordanian e-Visa is open to a wide range of nationalities โ more than 100 countries โ including nationals of the European Union, Switzerland, Canada, the United States, Australia and many other countries. The main condition is simple: hold a valid passport and meet the criteria of the online application.
The purposes of stay covered by the Jordanian e-Visa are broader than for many other electronic visas: tourism, business, transit and family visits are all accepted within the same online form.
Note: certain travellers are already exempt from visa requirements to enter Jordan and therefore do not need to submit an e-Visa application online. These include nationals of Gulf countries (Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, United Arab Emirates), Lebanon and Turkey.
Valid for at least 6 months after the planned entry date into Jordan. At least one blank page required for entry and exit stamps.
Minor children also need an e-Visa to enter Jordan, even when travelling with their parents.
Tourism, business, transit and family visit: all are covered by the same Jordanian e-Visa.
Nationals of Gulf countries, Lebanon and Turkey benefit from a visa exemption (90 days for some, 30 days for others). Egypt, Palestine, Russia and Uzbekistan are exempt for 30 days.
One particular point deserves attention: Jordan also offers a visa on arrival for nationals of around one hundred countries, available at Queen Alia airport and at the Sheikh Hussein bridge (Jordanian-West Bank border). However, the visa on arrival involves queuing at immigration and does not guarantee the same pre-clearance conditions. Applying for an e-Visa in advance remains the most reassuring option.
03 ยท The procedure
The Jordanian e-Visa application is made entirely online, via the official website of the Jordanian Ministry of the Interior. The platform is available in English only. Before you start, have your passport, your precise travel dates and a confirmed accommodation address in Jordan to hand.
It is important to allow for processing times: creating an account on the official platform is mandatory, and the account validation email can take up to 24 hours to arrive after registration. Once the account is validated, the visa application itself is generally processed within 72 working hours.
Go to the website of the Jordanian Ministry of the Interior (available in English only) and create your account. The validation email can take up to 24 hours: do not leave this step to the last minute.
Prepare a colour copy of your passport (valid for at least 6 months after your arrival), your precise travel dates and the address of your accommodation in Jordan (hotel, rental or private accommodation).
Select the Single-entry e-Visa (one entry permitted, to be used within 90 days of issuance) or the Double-entry e-Visa (two entries permitted, to be used within 3 months of issuance). Both allow a stay of 90 days per entry.
Fill in all required information: personal details, passport details, purpose of stay, address in Jordan. Pay the consular fees by bank card directly on the official platform.
Processing your application generally takes 72 working hours. Once approved, your e-Visa is sent to you in PDF format by email. Print it in colour and keep it with your passport.
At the entry point into Jordan (airport, land border), present your passport and the printed PDF document to the Jordanian authorities. The e-Visa is checked before entry into the territory.
The official website of the Jordanian Ministry of the Interior for the e-Visa application is not available in French: all instructions, the form and the menus are in English. Furthermore, the emails sent by the Jordanian authorities (account confirmation, processing notifications) are written in Arabic only, which can disorient applicants. It is therefore strongly advisable to anticipate this dual language challenge when preparing your application.
04 ยท Fees & processing times
Consular fees are set by the Jordanian authorities and are paid directly when applying online by bank card. They amount to 50 โฌ (approximately 40 JOD) for the Single-entry e-Visa and 75 โฌ (approximately 60 JOD) for the Double-entry e-Visa. The exact amount in Jordanian dinars may vary slightly depending on the exchange rate applied by the platform.
It is recommended to submit your application at least one week before your planned arrival date. In the event of missing documents or additional verification, the processing time may exceed 72 working hours. Planning ahead will allow you to handle any unexpected situation without stress.
The validity period of the e-Visa starts from the date of issuance (and not from the date of arrival). For the Single entry, you have 90 days from that date to make your first โ and only โ entry into Jordan. For the Double entry, the window is 3 months. Once entered, the 90-day stay counter starts from your actual arrival date.
05 ยท Stay rules
The Jordanian e-Visa authorises a stay of up to 90 days per entry. This count begins from the actual date of entry into Jordanian territory โ not from the date of issuance of the document. It is a short-stay visa.
An important rule came into force on 1 October 2025: any visitor staying more than 14 days in Jordan is required to present themselves at the Public Security Directorate (local police) to submit an application and provide biometric data (fingerprints and iris scan). Failure to comply with this obligation may result in a fine of 200 JOD (approximately 258 EUR).
Since 1 October 2025, if you stay more than 14 days in Jordan, you must register with the Public Security Directorate and provide your biometric data. The fine for non-compliance is 200 JOD (approximately 258 EUR).
The following are exempt from this obligation, even for stays exceeding 14 days:
Under certain conditions, it is possible to extend the validity of the e-Visa at the local Passport and Immigration service. The stay can be extended to a maximum total duration of 6 months.
Queen Alia airport and Sheikh Hussein bridge (Jordanian-West Bank border) also issue visas on arrival. The Sheikh Hussein bridge (Eilat-Aqaba border) issues a visa on arrival only to Jordan Pass holders planning to stay at least 2 nights.
The Jordanian e-Visa is valid for 90 days from its date of issuance. You can adjust your entry dates within this validity window. The authorised 90-day stay runs from your arrival in Jordan.
Minor children need an e-Visa. If accompanied by their parents, children under 12 can access tourist sites free of charge.
06 ยท Before you leave
Jordan has a well-developed tourist infrastructure, particularly around the sites of Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea and Aqaba. However, the regional security situation has deteriorated since 2024, and several governments have raised their travel advisories. Check your foreign ministry's official travel advice before any departure.
The US State Department has placed Jordan at Level 3 โ Reconsider Travel due to ongoing regional tensions. In 2024, Iranian missiles and drones crossed Jordanian airspace and were intercepted during an attack on Israel, triggering an exceptional military mobilisation. Armed incidents may occur near the borders (Iraq, Syria).
Recommendations:
The Jordan e-Visa is a fully-fledged electronic visa, mandatory since March 2023 for more than 100 nationalities including French, Belgian and Swiss citizens. The procedure is entirely online, but involves a few hurdles to anticipate: the official website is in English only, communications from the authorities arrive in Arabic, account validation can take up to 24 hours and the form requires careful attention. Submit your application at least one week before your departure to travel with peace of mind. If you are staying more than 14 days, find out about the biometric obligation that came into force on 1 October 2025 โ unless you have the Jordan Pass, in which case you are exempt.
