Armenia issues an e-Visa — a genuine electronic visa, obtained entirely online — to travellers whose nationality is not exempt from visa requirements. It comes in two versions: 21 days for short stays (tourism, business, family visits) and 120 days for longer projects. The procedure is straightforward, with no visit to an embassy, and the document is sent by email. One important distinction: visa validity and maximum length of stay are two entirely different concepts.
01 · The essentials
The Armenian e-Visa application is completed entirely online, with no visit to an embassy or consulate.
Armenia offers two types of e-Visa depending on the length of your intended stay: short stay (max 21 days) and long stay (max 120 days).
Regardless of the visa chosen, your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned return date from Armenia.

The e-Visa for Armenia is a fully-fledged electronic visa — not a simple travel authorisation. It is required for nationals whose country does not benefit from a visa-exemption agreement with Armenia. Many European nationals are, however, exempt from visa requirements for stays of up to 180 days per calendar year.
For travellers who do need a visa, there are two types. The first, the 21-day e-Visa, is designed for short stays: holidays, quick business trips or family visits. The second, the 120-day e-Visa, is intended for those planning a longer stay, whether for a professional project, an in-depth exploration of the country, or medical treatment. In both cases, the visa permits only a single entry into Armenian territory.
It is essential not to confuse these two concepts. Validity (90 or 180 days) is the window during which you may use the visa to enter Armenia. The maximum length of stay (21 or 120 days) is the time you may spend on Armenian territory once you have entered. Exceeding the authorised length of stay is an offence under Armenian law.
Since 1 January 2026, nationals of 113 countries who hold a valid residence permit issued by the United States, the European Union, the Schengen area, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Oman (valid for at least 6 months) may enter Armenia without a visa and stay for up to 180 days. This measure is valid until 1 July 2026. If you benefit from this provision, you do not need to submit an e-Visa application.
02 · Eligibility
The Armenian e-Visa is primarily intended for non-European nationals subject to an authorisation requirement. To determine whether you need an e-Visa, three situations apply:
Many European nationals (European Union, Schengen area and other countries linked by bilateral agreement) may stay in Armenia for up to 180 days per calendar year without any visa. No prior application is required.
Non-exempt nationals wishing to enter Armenia for tourism, business, family visits, cultural or sporting events, or medical treatment must submit an e-Visa application before arrival.
Certain nationalities eligible for the e-Visa may also obtain a visa on arrival, subject to conditions — in particular if they already hold a valid visa for another Western country that is exempt from visa requirements. If in doubt, the e-Visa remains the safest option.
If you are transiting through Armenia without leaving the airport transit zone, no visa is required. However, as soon as you leave the transit zone — to visit the city or catch a connecting flight at another Armenian airport — a visa is mandatory.
Foreign minors wishing to enter Armenia for tourism or business purposes for a maximum of 180 days are subject to the same rules as adults: they must submit an e-Visa application if their nationality requires it. The only difference is that they are exempt from consular fees.
If you have previously travelled to Azerbaijan, there is no specific restriction on entering Armenia. The reverse is not true, however: any travel to the former Nagorno-Karabakh region — entirely under Azerbaijani control since September 2023 — or the presence of an Armenian stamp in your passport may result in a refusal of entry into Azerbaijan on a subsequent trip.
03 · The procedure
The e-Visa application for Armenia is completed entirely online, with no visit to an embassy or consulate. We recommend submitting your application at least one week before your arrival. In the case of an urgent departure, the processing time is just 72 hours.
Collect your valid passport (valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned return date), a recent colour passport photo on a white background, proof of accommodation, your flight ticket and bank statements for the last 3 months.
Indicate the type of e-Visa required (21 or 120 days), the purpose of your stay, your entry and exit dates, the address and phone number of your accommodation in Armenia. Enter the details of each traveller (title, surname, first name, passport number) and your contact information (email, phone, billing address).
Send the required documents so that your application can be verified. Accuracy is essential: an error in the passport number or an incorrect date can invalidate the application.
Consular fees are paid online at the time of submission. They vary depending on the duration of the e-Visa chosen.
Once your application has been approved, your e-Visa will be sent to you by email. Check that it matches your application. Printing is not mandatory, but we recommend keeping a paper or digital copy (on your smartphone, tablet or computer) when you travel.
If you wish to check the status of an application submitted outside our services, you can visit the official portal of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (evisa.mfa.am), under the "Check application status" section, by entering your application reference number.
It is possible to group several travellers in a single application. However, each e-Visa issued is personal and linked to the passport number of each traveller. Please take care when entering the details of each person.
04 · Fees & processing times
Consular fees are paid directly online at the time of submission. Minors are exempt from these fees but must still submit an e-Visa application if their nationality requires it.
Each e-Visa is valid for a single entry only: if you leave Armenia and wish to return, you will need to submit a new application. Travellers planning multiple round trips should factor this into their travel planning.
In exceptional circumstances, the e-Visa can be extended by 60 days by contacting the Armenian authorities and completing an extension form to be sent to the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. This option is, however, reserved for specific situations.
05 · Entry points
The Armenian e-Visa is accepted at a limited number of border crossings. Before planning your itinerary, verify that your intended entry point is among the eligible checkpoints. If not, you risk being denied entry even if your visa is valid.
Ayrum railway station, Bavra, Bagratashen and Gogavan: four land crossings towards Georgia, for travellers arriving overland from the north.
Zvartnots International Airport (Yerevan): the main air entry point for international flights to Armenia.
The border with Iran is also eligible for the e-Visa, for travellers arriving overland from the south.
Avoid any travel within 5 km of the border with Azerbaijan, due to unpredictable security conditions and the persistent risk of armed conflict between the two countries. Since September 2023, Nagorno-Karabakh has been entirely under Azerbaijani control: there is no longer any territory accessible from Armenia in this region. All borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan are closed and heavily militarised.
06 · Before you travel
A trip to Armenia requires advance preparation. Beyond the e-Visa, several practical precautions will help you approach your stay with peace of mind. Armenia is a country of rugged terrain, nestled in the heart of the Caucasus: hiking, ancient archaeological sites (medieval monasteries, pre-Christian temples) and gastronomy all hold a central place. Good logistical preparation is the key to a successful trip.
Make sure to enter all your details exactly as they appear in your passport — surname, first name, number and dates. A simple typo can invalidate the entire application and delay your departure. Also verify that your stay dates are consistent with the dates on your flight tickets.
If you are travelling as a group, submit a separate application for each traveller. e-Visas are personal and linked to each person's passport number. Submit all applications at the same time to receive the documents simultaneously and avoid last-minute delays before departure.
Before travelling, check the health and political conditions in force. The official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia (mfa.am) is the primary source to consult. French travellers may also register on the Ariane platform of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs: this service enables the French State to be aware of its nationals abroad and to facilitate potential repatriation in the event of force majeure.
The Armenian e-Visa is a genuine electronic visa — issued entirely online, with no visit to an embassy. It comes in two versions (maximum 21 or 120 days of stay), each allowing a single entry. The procedure is fast (72 hours for urgent requests, one week recommended), and consular fees are reasonable (7 € or 37 €). Always distinguish between visa validity (90 or 180 days to use it) and the maximum length of stay (21 or 120 days on Armenian territory). Avoid the border zone with Azerbaijan at all costs and stay informed about the security situation before your departure.
