1 option for Uzbekistan

Choose the visa that fits your trip. Fully online process, real-time tracking.

Uzbekistan, the historic heart of the Silk Road, opens its doors to travellers from around the world through a fully digital e-Visa. This genuine electronic visa — not to be confused with a simple travel authorisation — is mandatory for most foreign nationals wishing to stay in the country for tourism, business or a family visit. The application is made entirely online, without going through an embassy, and the issued document must be printed and presented at the border. Valid for 90 days from its date of issue, the e-Visa allows a continuous stay of up to 30 days on Uzbek territory.

01 · The essentials

The Uzbekistan e-Visa: a genuine electronic visa, 100% online

100% online

The e-Visa application is made entirely on the internet, with no visit to an embassy required, regardless of the option chosen.

Passport 6 months

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the planned date of entry into Uzbekistan.

Visa to print

The e-Visa is issued as an official PDF: it must be printed and presented in paper form to border authorities.

The Uzbekistan e-Visa is issued as an official PDF to be printed before arrival.

The Uzbekistan e-Visa is a full electronic visa, introduced at the initiative of the Uzbek president who, from 2016, sought to fully digitise visa issuance procedures in order to boost the country's tourism appeal. Unlike a travel authorisation (such as an ESTA or eTA), the Uzbek e-Visa confers the same entry rights as a traditional visa affixed in the passport, with the exception of rare purposes such as extended studies or volunteering.

The document is issued entirely online: no visit to an embassy is required. Once the application is approved, the traveller receives a link to download their visa in PDF format. This document must be printed and presented to border officers on arrival in Uzbekistan. Keeping a digital copy on your phone as a backup is recommended, but the paper version remains required.

The Uzbek e-Visa is available for three main purposes: tourism, business and visiting family. However, it does not allow you to work or study on the territory. Nationals of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member countries generally benefit from visa exemptions for stays of 30 to 90 days; holders of diplomatic passports or UN laissez-passer are also exempt.

Uzbekistan also offers electronic visas with double or multiple entry, whose consular fees are proportionally higher. If your itinerary involves leaving and returning to Uzbekistan, enquire about multiple-entry options suited to your journey.

02 · Eligibility

Who can apply for the e-Visa? Eligible nationalities and exemption cases

Uzbekistan has established a simplified electronic visa system open to nationals of a large number of countries. The official list of eligible nationalities can be found on the Uzbek government portal. In practice, the vast majority of European, North American, Asian and African travellers can apply for the e-Visa, provided they meet the required conditions.

Certain categories of travellers are however exempt from the visa requirement for short stays:

  • Nationals of CIS member countries (Commonwealth of Independent States) generally benefit from visa-free access for periods ranging from 30 to 90 days depending on their nationality.
  • Holders of a diplomatic or service passport as well as holders of a United Nations laissez-passer are exempt from the visa requirement regardless of their nationality.
  • Certain nationalities may benefit from specific bilateral exemptions — always check the current list with the Uzbek consular authorities before your departure.

If you already hold a valid traditional Uzbek visa, it is not possible to apply for a second one simultaneously. Only one entry authorisation per country, per passport, can be active at any one time.

CIS nationals

Citizens of CIS member countries generally enter without a visa for stays of 30 to 90 days.

Diplomatic passports

Holders of a diplomatic passport or a UN laissez-passer are exempt from the visa requirement, regardless of their nationality.

Minors — important rule

Each minor, regardless of age, must have their own individual e-Visa. Children cannot be included on a parent's visa.

Application from abroad

You can apply for your e-Visa from any country, even if you are already travelling. As the process is entirely online, no visit to a consulate is necessary.

Check your eligibility before paying
The list of nationalities eligible for the e-Visa may change without prior notice. If your nationality does not appear on the list of authorised countries, you will need to apply for a traditional visa at the Uzbekistan embassy or consulate responsible for your country of residence.

03 · Required documents

Prepare your application: the essential documents

The Uzbekistan e-Visa application is straightforward and requires only a limited number of documents. However, the quality and compliance of each document provided are crucial: a non-compliant photo or a passport with insufficient remaining validity can lead to a rejected application. It is therefore essential to prepare each item carefully before starting your online application.

Documents required for the Uzbekistan e-Visa
  • Valid passportYour passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the planned date of entry into Uzbekistan. Also ensure it has at least one blank page for the entry stamp.
  • Recent digital identity photoThe photo must be in digital format, with a neutral background (preferably white), your face clearly visible and unobstructed, without headwear or sunglasses. The proportions must comply with international biometric standards.
  • Proof of onward travelA return or onward plane or train ticket may be required to confirm that you do not intend to remain beyond the authorised period.
  • Online payment methodThe main international bank cards are accepted: Visa, Mastercard, American Express. Payment must be made at the time of submitting the application.
Pay attention when filling in
Once your application has been submitted, it is no longer possible to modify the information entered. Carefully check every field — surname, first name, date of birth, passport number — before confirming. If an error is made, a new application will need to be submitted.

04 · The process

  4. 4
    4. Wait for the response

The average processing time is 3 business days. It is advisable to submit your application well in advance to allow for any additional delays, particularly during peak tourist periods.

  5. 5
    5. Download and print the e-Visa

If approved, you will receive a link to download your visa in PDF format. Print this document: it must be physically presented to border authorities on your arrival in Uzbekistan. Also keep a digital copy as a backup.

05 · Stay conditions

Duration, validity and rules you absolutely need to know

Uzbek flag – symbol of a country at the crossroads of Central Asian cultures
Uzbekistan, a Central Asian country with a rich historical and cultural heritage.

The validity period and stay conditions attached to the Uzbek e-Visa deserve careful attention to avoid any unpleasant surprises at the border or during your stay.

Visa validity: The e-Visa is valid for 90 days from its date of issue. This period represents the window during which you must enter Uzbekistan. If you have not yet crossed the border when this period expires, your visa is void and a new application must be made.

Authorised length of stay: Once on the territory, you have a continuous stay of 30 days maximum from the actual date of entry. Please note: if you enter on the last day of validity (day 90), you only benefit from 29 additional days, not 30 full days. Plan your arrival accordingly.

Single entry: The standard e-Visa is a single-entry visa. If you leave Uzbekistan before the end of your authorised stay — even for a short excursion to a neighbouring country — you lose your right of entry and must obtain a new visa to return. If your itinerary involves multiple entries, double or multiple-entry options exist but are not included in the standard offer.

Extension not possible
It is not possible to extend an Uzbek e-Visa once on the territory. If you wish to stay longer, you must leave the country before your stay expires and submit a new visa application. Plan your length of stay precisely from the outset.

The Uzbek e-Visa does not grant access to the entire territory without restriction. Certain geographic areas may require special authorisations for reasons of national security or protection of historical and cultural heritage. Check with local authorities if your itinerary includes remote regions or protected sites.

Regarding regional travel, the Uzbek e-Visa does not allow entry into a neighbouring country (Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan). Each of these countries has its own entry policy and visa requirements. If your trip includes several Central Asian countries, plan ahead for the visa requirements for each stage.

06 · Before you leave

Prepare your trip to Uzbekistan: tips and checklist

Beyond the visa formalities, a trip to Uzbekistan requires careful preparation. A landlocked country at the heart of Central Asia, Uzbekistan has specific practical characteristics — administrative, health-related and logistical — that should be anticipated well before departure to ensure a smooth journey.

Pre-departure checklist
  • Check your passport validityYour passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the planned date of entry into Uzbekistan. Allow several weeks in advance if a renewal is needed.
  • Submit your e-Visa application in advanceAlthough the average processing time is 3 business days, additional delays may occur. Apply at least one to two weeks before your departure to have a comfortable buffer.
  • Print your e-Visa before travellingThe PDF document must be presented in paper form at the border. Do not rely solely on a digital copy: ensure you have a clear, legible printout.
  • Prepare your travel supporting documentsPlane or train tickets, accommodation bookings, itinerary plan: border officers may ask you to prove the purpose and arrangements of your stay.
  • Find out about current health requirementsHealth requirements (recommended vaccinations, preventive treatments) may vary depending on your country of origin and the season. Consult your doctor or an international vaccination centre before departure.
  • Check customs regulationsUzbekistan has specific customs rules regarding the importation of foreign currencies, alcohol, medication and certain electronic items. Find out about the current limits to avoid any problems on arrival.
  • Take out travel insuranceTravel insurance covering medical expenses, cancellation and repatriation is strongly recommended. Check that your planned activities (hiking, sports, visits to remote sites) are covered by your policy.
  • Plan your currency exchangeThe national currency is the Uzbek soum (UZS). Bank cards are accepted in major hotels and shops in cities, but a cash reserve remains essential for markets, local transport and rural areas.
Key takeaways on the Uzbekistan e-Visa

The Uzbekistan e-Visa is an accessible, fully online process that considerably simplifies entry into one of the most fascinating countries in Central Asia. It is a genuine electronic visa — not a simple travel authorisation — issued for stays of up to 30 days within a validity window of 90 days. The average processing time is 3 business days, with consular fees of approximately 20 USD.

Key points not to forget: check your eligibility before submitting your application, print your visa to present at the border, do not count on an extension on the spot (not possible), and plan your entry well before the 90-day validity period expires. If your itinerary includes departures from Uzbek territory, the standard single-entry visa will not allow you to return without a new application.
