Indonesia launches a new e-visa with 60-day stays
Indonesia’s new e-visa tourism option now allows 60 consecutive days, streamlining entry for international visitors and eliminating on-arrival extensions.
The e-Visa Tourism system has been updated, now granting travelers the right to stay in Indonesia for up to 60 consecutive days. This change simplifies travel formalities for international visitors. Applications are fully digital and can be completed online; no trip to an immigration office is required.
How the e-Visa Tourism has changed
Previously, tourists could apply for an e-Visa Tourism before departure for a 30-day stay. Upon arrival in Indonesia, they then had to visit an immigration office to extend the permit by another 30 days if needed.
Since 26 January 2023, you can apply for an online tourist visa and receive authorisation valid for 60 days straight. Two key benefits: no on-site extension is needed, and no local sponsor is required. Tourism and investment sectors are expected to grow as a result of Indonesia’s more flexible immigration policy.
At present, 87 nationalities—including all EU citizens—are eligible to apply for the e-Visa Tourism. Travellers should verify they enter via the airports, sea ports and land border crossings designated by Indonesian authorities. The fee for an e-Visa Tourism request is 1,500,000 Indonesian rupiah, about €93.
The e-Visa On Arrival (e-VOA) remains an option
The e-VOA is still available, delivering a 30-day entry permit. In the past, a visit to an immigration office was required to request an extension. Today, that extension can also be handled online. The e-VOA costs 500,000 rupiah, roughly €31.
Which e-visa should you choose?
Two digital visas are on offer for tourism, business or transit. Once approved, you have 90 days to enter Indonesia and each visa covers a single entry.
The e-Visa Tourism allows stays of up to 60 consecutive days and is best suited to leisure travellers planning longer organised trips.
The e-VOA or Visa On Arrival is ideal for short tourist visits or business trips. It grants 30 days on arrival with the option to apply online for an extension via the official government portal. A smartphone, laptop and internet connection are all you need to complete the extension process.
