Saudi Arabia announces two ways to extend your visa
Saudi Arabia now allows visitors to extend their visit visa online through Absher or Muqeem platforms before it expires. Learn the new process, costs, and key requirements.
Saudi Arabia has introduced two streamlined options for travelers to extend their visit visas while remaining in the country. Below, we outline the updated steps and key benefits of this digital-first approach.
Fully digital renewal process
Visitors holding a Saudi visit visa are now advised to apply for an extension at least 7 days before the visa expires, and they can complete the process entirely online—without needing to visit a Jawazat (General Directorate of Passports) office in person. This modernization reflects the Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to improving services for residents and tourists alike.
Using Absher and Muqeem platforms
The Ministry of Interior has made two digital channels available for visa extensions:

Absher is a mobile app that delivers a wide range of government services. Visitors can access it on any smartphone or tablet.
Muqeem is an online portal designed for desktop and laptop use, accessible from any internet-connected computer.
Both services require users to log in to their existing accounts to request a visa extension.
Payment of the service fee
After logging in, applicants pay the extension fee. Costs depend on the requested length of stay and visa type—fees are calculated automatically once the new duration is entered.
Key extension requirements
To qualify for a visit-visa extension, visitors must meet these conditions:
Apply at least 7 days before the visa expires—submitting the request in advance helps avoid potential administrative issues.
Hold valid medical insurance—as with initial visa applications, visitors need health coverage that meets Saudi government standards when extending their stay.
Stay within the 180-day limit—while extensions can extend total stays up to 180 days, exceeding this limit may result in penalties.
