Understanding Vietnam travel requirements for your trip

Planning a trip to Vietnam? Learn about the best time to visit, visa requirements, and essential travel formalities for a smooth adventure through this stunning Southeast Asian destination.

Renowned as one of Southeast Asia’s most captivating destinations, Vietnam boasts a rich tapestry of history, culture, and natural wonders. From thrilling adventures to unforgettable experiences, the country offers something exceptional for every traveler. Here’s how to prepare for your journey with confidence.

Best time to visit Vietnam

The ideal travel window is the dry season, from November to April, when temperatures hover between 25°C and 30°C. This period is perfect for exploring Vietnam’s diverse landscapes and cultural treasures. Consider booking your trip through a travel agency that can tailor a guided tour or fully customized itinerary to your preferences.

Passport validity check

To enter Vietnam, your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned arrival date.

Nations exempt from visa requirements for stays under 15 days

Travelers from 13 countries can enter Vietnam visa-free for stays of up to 15 days. These include: Germany, Belarus, Denmark, Spain, France, Finland, Italy, Japan, Norway, the United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, and Sweden. Visitors must present a valid ordinary passport to confirm their nationality upon entry.

Visa requirements for others

If your nationality is not on the exemption list or you plan to stay longer than 15 days, you’ll need to obtain an electronic travel authorization (e-Visa) before departure. The application process varies by nationality and can be completed online or at the nearest embassy. Today, 80 nationalities qualify for the Vietnam e-Visa. Travelers from non-eligible countries should apply through the closest Vietnamese embassy or consulate.

How to apply for the e-Visa

Your e-Visa application requires two documents: a passport photo and a standard ID photo. Processing takes about five days once your form and supporting documents are submitted. Once issued, the e-Visa must be used within 30 days and may be used for purposes such as tourism, business, medical treatment, volunteering, or transit.

Need assistance with your e-Visa application? If you qualify for the e-Visa and plan to stay more than 15 days, you can submit your request via our dedicated online form.
