First trip to South Korea? Here’s what you need to know

A guide to the best time to visit, must-see cities, and essential travel formalities for South Korea.

The Republic of Korea is a destination that draws travellers from all over the world, captivating visitors with its seamless blend of cutting-edge modernity and deep-rooted ancient traditions. From breathtaking natural scenery to rich cultural heritage, highlights include UNESCO-listed Buddhist temples, vibrant cherry blossoms and picturesque fishing villages.

When is the best time to visit South Korea?

South Korea is a year-round destination. Several seasons stand out—your choice depends on the experiences you seek.

For mild weather that’s perfect for sightseeing, aim for mid-September to late October. Autumn delivers crisp days and striking fall foliage nationwide.

Spring—April to June—brings cherry-blossom fever. Parks and royal palaces erupt in soft-pink blossoms, though expect intermittent spring rains.

Winter enthusiasts should consider December to February. Snow blankets metropolitan streets, creating fairy-tale landscapes in every city and turning nearby ski resorts into powder playgrounds.

Which cities should be on your itinerary?

  • Seoul — the vibrant capital that fuses sleek high-rises with historic palaces, buzzing markets and UNESCO sites.

  • Suwon — home to the towering Hwaseong Fortress and other heritage landmarks that chronicle Korea’s past rulers.

  • Andong — a tranquil retreat whose cobbled streets and riverfront hanok houses earn it the title “spiritual capital.” Don’t miss its serene temples and folk museums.

  • Busan — a coastal metropolis offering sandy beaches, scenic coastal drives and fish-market feasts sourced straight from the sea.

Travel formalities you cannot overlook

Entering South Korea requires a K-ETA—an electronic travel authorisation that must be obtained before departure. Your application must include clear, colour scans of the passport bio-page and a recent passport-style colour photo. Your passport should remain valid for the entire stay.

Our agency assists travellers with the K-ETA process. Once your application and required documents are received, processing typically takes about 72 hours.
