Canada to Pilot Trusted Traveler Fast Tracks in Airport Security

Six major Canadian airports will test dedicated trusted traveler security lanes from June 7–21 to cut summer congestion and streamline screening for vetted passengers, while maintaining high safety standards.

From June 7—21, six of the country’s busiest airports will open dedicated security lanes for members of the Verified Traveller program.

Federal Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said the test aims to ease the delays airports typically face ahead of the summer travel season.

Addressing peak-season bottlenecks

The program will launch at Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Montréal and Winnipeg airports. Ottawa’s Macdonald-Cartier International is notably not included in this expansion.

In a statement, the minister explained the update will speed up NEXUS and Trusted Traveler queues by eliminating routine slowdowns.

This includes travelers being able to keep laptops, larger electronics and compliant liquids and gels inside their carry-on bags,” he added.

Accompanying minors under 17, or seniors 75 and older, may travel through the same lanes if booked on the same reservation.
