Introducing the JESTA Electronic Visa System
The electronic visa, known as JESTA (Japan Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is designed to cut processing times and offer greater convenience to applicants by allowing them to submit requests online and receive visas electronically. The Japanese government hopes the measure will boost tourism and strengthen economic ties with other nations.
Eligible Nationalities
Travelers from 71 nationalities currently exempt from visas for short stays of up to 90 days are expected to be eligible for the e-visa. The government is expected to officially confirm the list of eligible countries in the coming weeks.
Travelers planning a trip to Japan are advised to monitor official updates from Japanese embassies and consulates, as well as government websites, for further details.
