Mauritius to Launch Electronic Travel Authorization System
Mauritius will introduce a new electronic travel authorization (ETA) platform to streamline arrivals for tourists and citizens. Details and implementation timeline remain pending as the country doubles down on tourism as a key economic driver.
During a Golden Jubilee event marking the 50th anniversary of Constance Hotels & Resorts, held at the Constance Belle Mare Plage, Mauritian Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam announced the launch of a new digital recognition and electronic travel authorization (ETA) platform designed to improve arrival procedures for tourists and Mauritians traveling overseas.
Why Tourism Matters for Mauritius
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister highlighted tourism as one of the most effective and fastest job-creators for Mauritius. He described it as a major economic opportunity capable of supporting the country’s economic rebalancing efforts. Dr Ramgoolam also called for stronger collaboration between public and private sectors—his vision that this “would take the industry to the next level.”
With international markets widely recognized as fiercely competitive, Ramgoolam noted that Mauritius welcomed 1.4 million tourists in 2025. The country is now focused on reinforcing its reputation for premium visitor experiences underpinned by a strategy blending sustainability, diversity, and authenticity. The new ETA and digital recognition platform are expected to boost Mauritius’ standing on the global tourism map alongside ongoing improvements in airport infrastructure, digital connectivity, and the national legal framework.
“As part of continuous efforts to elevate the visitor experience, the Prime Minister unveiled plans for a digital recognition system and a new electronic travel authorization platform. It aims to eliminate queues for tourists and Mauritian travelers heading abroad.”

The New Electronic Travel Authorization System
Enhancements to entry procedures in Mauritius are expected to simplify arrival and departure formalities, cutting wait times and paperwork for visitors and citizens alike.
While the announcement has been made, no implementation timeline or further details have been released. Arrival protocols remain unchanged for now. At present, the majority of visitors to the island benefit from visa-free access for short stays; others must secure a visa in advance or on arrival.
An existing Mauritius All-in-One Digital Travel Form already requires completion before travel to obtain a QR code for authorities upon arrival. Travelers without a completed digital form must fill out a paper landing card instead. Visitors are strongly encouraged to complete the online process via the official portal at safemauritius.govmu.org.
