Morocco and Azerbaijan Sign Visa Waiver Agreement for Tourists

Morocco and Azerbaijan have signed a visa waiver agreement for ordinary passport holders, facilitating tourism and strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

In a move toward strengthened collaboration, Morocco🇲🇦 and Azerbaijan🇦🇿 have taken a significant step by signing a visa waiver agreement for holders of ordinary passports for tourism purposes only. This promising agreement was sealed on the sidelines of the 15th Islamic Summit Conference in Banjul, highlighting the positive evolution of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Citizens of both countries will now have the opportunity to visit the other nation without major constraints, which will undoubtedly encourage enriching cultural exchanges and diversified economic interactions.

During the 2nd session of the Joint Commission in November 2023, the two countries discussed further promoting bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector, including the launch of direct flights and simplifying visa issuance. This has now been achieved.

Efforts have materialized through increased reciprocal visits by government officials, businesspeople, economic operators, as well as representatives from culture and sports,” explains the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Rabat, Nazim Samadov.

A Certain Path to Closer Ties

Both countries have been intensifying exchanges since late last year, alongside some major commercial announcements:

  • Signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding across various domains during the 2nd session of the Joint Commission in November 2023, underscoring the two countries’ commitment to deepening their relations.

  • Signing of a memorandum of understanding between Morocco’s Investment and Export Development Agency (AMDIE) and its Azerbaijani counterpart Azpromo, aimed at establishing a partnership and enhancing cooperation in investment.

  • Signing of a memorandum between Morocco’s SME Agency (Maroc PME), Azerbaijan’s KOBIA Agency, and AMDIE to promote commercial cooperation and investment between SMEs in both countries.

  • Discussions on the prospects of establishing triangular cooperation involving both countries and African partner nations, in line with Morocco’s foreign policy centered on Africa and South-South cooperation.

  • Shared commitment to preserving state sovereignty and territorial integrity as a cornerstone for peace and stability in their respective regions.
