Cook began his journey on 22 April at the southern tip of South Africa and has already logged almost 12,000 km through 13 countries. Yet, after 278 days on the road, a major obstacle has emerged: difficulty securing entry visas, notably at the Algeria–Mauritania border.

Algerian embassy grant reprieve, aided by UK MPs
Just days ago, Cook announced he had secured a multi-entry Algerian visa permitting passage through the Tindouf province. With more than 4,000 km still to run, his Project Africa timeline is now being finalised.
The breakthrough follows advocacy by two UK Conservative MPs, Tim Loughton and Alexander Stafford, who contacted the Foreign Office, the Algerian ambassador and the embassy to challenge the visa impasse.
Beyond bureaucracy, Cook continues to confront serious health and security risks in regions with extreme conditions. While in Angola, he endured a violent assault that underscored the dangers he faces.
Undeterred, Cook’s supporters—family, sponsors and donors—have rallied to his cause, raising nearly £143,000 for The Running Charity.
