Where to apply for a Cuban e-visa now that evisacuba.cu is down?
The evisacuba.cu portal, through which applications for Cuba’s electronic tourist visa were processed, has been down since October 29, 2026. Cuba’s consular service portal, consular.cu, offers an alternative, but questions remain over its reliability.
The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs has introduced a new consular-service portal, consular.cu, whose application section can be accessed at tramites.consular.cu. New migration laws 171, 172 and 173 also took effect on November 1, 2026.

Laws 171, 172 and 173 come into force on November 1
According to Granma, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of Cuba, laws 171 (Migration), 172 (Citizenship) and 173 (Foreigners) came into force on Sunday, November 1, 2026, along with their implementing regulations. They were published in the Ordinary Official Gazette No. 39.
For foreigners, the laws establish two new residency statuses: provisional residency, a prerequisite for applying for citizenship, and permanent residency, with expanded eligibility criteria. A humanitarian-residency pathway is also provided for individuals requiring additional protection. Travelers in transit are not affected by these changes, and the official article does not explicitly address tourism visas.
What happened with the e-visa portal
The Cuban Consulate in Washington announced that the e-visa tourism portal would be temporarily suspended from Thursday, October 29, until Monday, November 2, 2026, for a system update. During that period, they redirected travelers to travel-agency partners authorised to process visa applications.
That maintenance window has now closed. As of November 4, 2026, evisacuba.cu was not functioning in the morning but restored later that afternoon according to checks by Visamundi. The electronic visa has been mandatory for visa-required travelers entering Cuba since July 1, 2025, as previously explained.
Introducing the new consular.cu portal
consular.cu claims to be the official Cuban Foreign Ministry portal for visa and consular services, serving Cuban nationals, foreigners and travel agencies. Clicking the button titled “Solicita tu visa digital ahora” redirects users to tramites.consular.cu, where the “Solicitud de Visado” page outlines application requirements: a valid passport linked to the digital visa throughout the stay in Cuba.
The portal promises a response within 72 business hours. All application processes are to be handled “directly at our consulates,” and finalised data is emailed to applicants at the end of the procedure. A verification section allows travelers to check the status and validity of an issued visa. Cruise passengers must contact the consular office for assistance.
A specialist in regulatory monitoring and a content destination expert, she analyzes daily changes in entry formalities to turn complex administrative processes into practical guides.
