Travel to Botswana: E-Visa Requirements for International Visitors

The Botswana e-Visa system is back online after a temporary suspension. Learn about eligibility, required documents, and how to apply for a hassle-free electronic visa for tourism, business, or transit.

For travelers from certain nationalities, an e-Visa (electronic visa) is required to enter Botswana. Here’s everything you need to know about the requirements and process.

Botswana’s Official E-Visa Portal

The Botswana e-Visa system, which was temporarily suspended in late April 2025, has now been fully restored. International travelers can once again submit visa applications online via the official government portal—no embassy or immigration office visit required.

During the suspension, applicants faced delays in submitting new applications. With the system reinstated, Botswana’s Department of Immigration and Citizenship has confirmed that all functionalities have been restored and applications are now being processed as normal.

How to Apply for a Botswana E-Visa

Launched in August 2021, the Botswana e-Visa platform was designed to simplify and expedite the visa application process. Travelers can now complete forms, upload required documents, and receive their visa electronically—all in one streamlined, fully digital process.

📄 Required documents for upload vary depending on the purpose of your visit. Visit this official page to review specific requirements based on your chosen visa type.

✈️ Multiple travel purposes are supported under the e-Visa system, including Visitor, Tourist, Business, Employment, Investment, Transit, Diplomatic, Official, and Study visas.

🌍 To check your eligibility, use the "Do I need a visa" tab on the portal. It lists countries required to obtain a visa, while many others—including most European passport holders—are exempt for stays up to 90 days per year.

Travelers planning a trip to Botswana are encouraged to use the e-Visa platform for a smooth, efficient application experience. For more details or to apply, visit the Government of Botswana’s official e-Visa website.

The e-Visa system reflects Botswana’s commitment to welcoming global visitors and showcasing its pristine landscapes, iconic wildlife, and rich culture. Whether you’re booking a multi-day safari or visiting a national park, working with a reputable travel agency can help organize logistics such as guided tours, park entry, and local permits.
