Cameroon: Avoid Inconsistencies in Long-Stay e-Visa Applications
Cameroon has tightened e-Visa rules, rejecting long-stay requests without matching travel proofs. Learn what documents you need and how mismatches can downgrade your visa.
We are currently observing a much stricter application of the rules governing the issuance of Cameroon’s Long-Stay electronic visas by the national authorities.
If you were previously in the habit of requesting a six-month “precautionary” visa or one with greater flexibility in mind, here’s what has changed.
Strict verification of application coherence
Until recently, it was common practice for travellers to apply for a Long-Stay visa (valid up to 12 months) even for a trip lasting just a few weeks. The intention was simply to cover any eventuality—a second journey or unforeseen extension—without the hassle of reapplying.
Today, Cameroonian consular authorities perform a rigorous check to ensure the following align perfectly:
the visa type requested; and
the supporting documents provided (return flight tickets, hotel reservations, accommodation certificates, invitation letters, etc.).

Possible downgrade to Short-Stay visa
If you request a Long-Stay e-Visa but your supporting evidence only covers a short period—for instance, a return ticket for a 15-day stay—your application will not automatically be rejected. Instead, it may be reclassified as a Short-Stay visa without refund of any price difference.
The Cameroonian authorities will then issue a Short-Stay (Standard) visa that matches exactly the duration justified by your travel documents, usually up to six months, rather than honouring your original wish to travel for a longer period.
In short: the visa you receive will correspond strictly to the dates substantiated by your travel papers, not to your initial travel plans.
