Dominican Republic Extends Entry Easing Through 2026

The Dominican Republic’s migration authority extends relaxed passport rules for key markets, waiving the six-month validity requirement until December 31, 2026.

The Dirección General de Migración (DGM) has extended a widely anticipated measure that eases entry for international travelers and tourism professionals. Relaxed passport validity rules, which exempt certain tourists from the traditional “six-month validity” requirement, have been prolonged for an additional year.

Measure effective since December 1

Per the official announcement, these provisions took effect on December 1, 2025 and will remain in force through December 31, 2026.
Under the updated rules, qualifying tourists no longer need to present a passport valid for at least six months beyond their planned date of entry. Instead, passports must remain valid only for the full duration of their stay and at the time of departure from Dominican territory.

Who qualifies?

The relaxation applies to travelers from specific countries. The DGM has identified the following eligible nationalities:

- European Union citizens (France, Belgium, Germany, etc.)
- Nationals of the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom
- Travelers from Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, and Ecuador

Eligibility also extends to passport holders from other countries, provided they possess a valid U.S., Canadian, U.K., or Schengen visa or residency permit enabling entry to those jurisdictions.

Removing barriers to travel

This decision follows Migration Resolution DGM-01-2024 and underscores the Dominican Republic’s commitment to sustaining tourism momentum while easing administrative burdens on visitors. Authorities emphasize streamlining entry procedures to prevent discouraging international guests.

With this measure, the DGM reaffirms the government’s dedication to fostering international tourism and simplifying immigration processes. The program runs from December 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026.

E-Ticket requirement remains

While passport expiration constraints are lifted for eligible travelers, other entry formalities remain intact. All visitors must still complete the electronic entry and exit form (E-Ticket) via the official migration portal before traveling.
