Cuba Travel from July 2025: e-Visa or Tourist Card?

Cuba mandates e-Visas for most travelers starting July 1, 2025—replacing the old paper tourist card, but existing cards remain valid until December 31, 2025.

As Cuba prepares to make electronic visas mandatory for most travelers, the Cuban Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) has issued critical guidance: from July 1, 2025 onward, tourists visiting Cuba for leisure must secure an electronic visa (e-Visa) via the official platform evisacuba.cu.

Tourist Cards Phased Out in Favor of e-Visas

This change marks the end of the traditional paper tourist card, which will no longer be issued. Existing tourist cards will, however, remain valid until December 31, 2025, according to the MINTUR announcement made on June 25.

The new tourist e-Visa permits a single entry into Cuba and allows visitors to stay up to 90 days, with the option to request an extension. In addition to the e-Visa, travelers must complete an obligatory health declaration form available at dviajeros.mitrans.gob.cu prior to departure.

Those arriving by sea must contact their nearest consular office.

How to Apply for the Cuba e-Visa

Cuba’s modernization of entry formalities aligns it with global standards for digitalizing migration services. The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) has launched a streamlined online visa system.

Applicants fill in personal details and pay online, with fees going to the nearest Cuban embassy or consulate. Processing typically takes 72 hours. The official e-Visa fee is €22. Payment methods vary by mission and are confirmed during the application process.

From July 1, 2025, all tourists—except holders of still-valid paper tourist cards—must obtain an e-Visa before arrival. The shift underscores Cuba’s commitment to modernizing and securing its entry procedures.
