Regional travel trends

According to the National Immigration Administration, 466 000 visas were issued to foreign nationals in Q1 2024, a year-on-year rise of nearly 120%. During the same period, almost 2 million visa-exempt visits were made to mainland China by foreigners, an increase of 266%. Guangzhou, Guangdong’s capital and the southern hub of China’s commerce, has led the country in airport passenger traffic for four consecutive years. Offering complimentary day tours to transit passengers is a proven strategy used in other major hub airports such as Istanbul, Doha, and Dubai.
