Mauritius extends ‘no-passport’ travel for Réunionnais until 2026
Réunionnais travelers can enter Mauritius with just a French ID card until June 30, 2026, under a renewal of the island's special entry scheme.
Good news for travelers from Réunion: you can now visit Mauritius using only your valid French national identity card (CNI), and this will remain possible until 30 June 2026.
This exemption, renewed by Mauritian authorities, eases tourist stays for French residents in Réunion—adults and children alike. Some of our clients have already taken advantage of this arrangement.

Simplified entry for islanders
Since June 2023, residents of Réunion embarking on a break in Mauritius enjoy fast-tracked entry: a passport is no longer mandatory for tourist stays of more than two nights provided you begin your journey from Réunion. A valid CNI is sufficient, though your Réunion address must match the one on your ID; if not, simply bring a recent document proving residency in Réunion.
⚠️ Visitors must still meet all standard Mauritius immigration rules: confirmed return ticket, proof of funds, travel insurance, and accommodation evidence are required. Paid or remunerated work is banned during the stay, or penalties will apply.
Parents travelling with children under 18 must carry the child’s birth certificate or family record book upon arrival; travelling alone from Réunion requires a signed parental authorization that includes a photograph. |
Every year about 150,000 Réunionnais choose Mauritius as their holiday destination. By removing administrative hurdles—last-minute trips, larger families, forgotten passports—the special dispensation helps unlock the island’s beaches, culture and warm Mauritian welcome more easily.
Metropolitan French travelers do not qualify for the “Mauritius no-passport” scheme and must still present a valid passport to enter the country, even on short pleasure trips.
