Our e-Visa Barometer: Which Official Sites Are the Most Reliable?

A deep dive into the performance of 28 official e-Visa portals shows vast disparities among governments when it comes to speed and reliability.

Preparing for an international trip should be a thrill, not a tense hour staring at a screen. With the worldwide rollout of electronic visas (e-Visas), governments have digitised entry processes while streamlining border checks to make clearance faster and simpler for travellers.

In practice, the experience on an official government website varies dramatically. Forms that vanish mid-entry, sudden freezes at checkout, pages that refuse to load—these are the frustrations we see every day at our visa-processing agency. Using a suite of monitoring tools, our team tracked the official portals of 28 destinations in our travel catalogue for a full month.

To build our barometer we focused on two straightforward questions: Is the site fast? and Does it crash often? The test window covered 30 consecutive days.

When government e-Visa sites let travellers down

Behind these numbers lie real headaches—for travellers who are racing to meet departure deadlines. Sites in Sri Lanka, Indonesia and South Georgia deliver a flawless experience: pages load instantly, passport photos upload without freezing, and payments usually process on the first attempt.

Contrary to popular belief, the portals behind the U.S. ESTA and Canada’s eTA are among the slowest. In some cases travelers wait nearly five seconds between clicks while systems run background security checks in real time.

Pro tip from our team: Don’t refresh (F5) if a page hangs; the session will drop, forcing you to start your entire application from scratch.

The servers behind Myanmar’s, Egypt’s and Tanzania’s e-Visa platforms are the most brittle, failing multiple times each day.

The biggest risk is a crash exactly as you hit “pay now.” You could be debited by your bank, yet the government portal has never received the payment because the connection dropped. The only recourse is a long and complex refund claim at the consulate.

Why use an agency? When off-the-shelf portals are so unpredictable, travel agencies like ours step in and submit your application directly to each country’s official authority.

  • No lost forms: If a government site is down, you aren’t stuck. Our system safely stores your data and submits it automatically as soon as the portal is back up.

  • Files that always clear: Slow portals (such as Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon) often reject oversized scans. Our specialists resize and reformat files to ensure acceptance.

  • Secure, single payment: By using our fully secured portal you eliminate double-charging risks caused by buggy government sites. You pay once, and we handle the rest.
