Senegal Rolls Out Electronic Visa (e-Visa) System Under New Reforms
Senegal introduces an electronic visa (e-visa) system for travelers from countries requiring visas for Senegalese nationals, aligning with the 'Senegal 2050' economic vision to modernize immigration infrastructure.
Senegal has recently overhauled its immigration policy by introducing an electronic visa (e-visa) system for nationals of countries that require visas for Senegalese travelers. Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko announced that affected visitors will now need to pay visa application fees online prior to arrival. The reform aligns with efforts to modernize and secure Senegal’s migration infrastructure.
Officials highlight that the measure will enhance administrative security, reduce risks of abuse, and streamline immigration services. Advanced online payments are intended to increase transparency, curb congestion at border posts, and ensure only eligible applicants complete the process.
Senegal 2050 Vision
The announcement follows the country’s push toward economic transformation as outlined in its strategic “Senegal 2050” vision and the new National Economic and Social Recovery Plan. Backed by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s administration, the reform aims to restore Senegal’s budgetary sovereignty and bolster its regional and international standing. The government expects to generate roughly 60 billion CFA francs through e-visa fees.

Which Countries Are Affected?
The policy operates on reciprocity: any country requiring visas for Senegalese nationals will subject its citizens to the same entry condition in Senegal. Affected countries are likely to include France, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and China. At present, the e-visa has not yet entered into force. The official application process, consular fees, and specific nationalities involved have not been publicly announced.
Senegal’s Role in Regional and Global Mobility
With this initiative, Senegal joins African peers such as Namibia, which recently adopted reciprocal visa policies, emphasizing international balance in migration management and relations.
