Togo Waives Visa for African Passport Holders Beginning May 2026
Togo joins five African nations in offering visa-free entry to African passport holders, effective May 18, 2026. Learn about new online registration requirements and key details for travelers.
As of 18 May 2026, Togo will officially become the sixth African country to offer visa-free entry to all African passport holders. The move aims to boost tourism and business while introducing new online registration procedures.
In a bid to accelerate continental integration and solidify its role as a logistics hub in the Gulf of Guinea, Togo’s Ministry of Security has enacted a major reform allowing visa-free entry for citizens of African Union member states holding valid national passports. Travelers will be granted visa-free entry to Togo for stays of up to 30 days.

Official announcement, published 19 May 2026
Togo joins Rwanda, Ghana, Benin, Gambia, and Seychelles in promoting total continental mobility. This border opening aligns with Togo’s strategic positioning within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Business Hub: The port of Lomé is among West Africa’s deepest and most dynamic, making it a critical transit point for international trade.
Tourism Growth: From Atlantic beaches to the rolling hills of Kpalimé, the country continues to expand its hospitality infrastructure.
Event Industry: Relaxed visa rules are designed to attract major panafrican and international conferences.
"Visa-Free" Does Not Mean "No Procedures"
Many travelers discover too late that a visa waiver doesn’t equal unfettered access. While African travelers no longer need a traditional or e-Visa, advance registration is now mandatory. Less than 24 hours before departure, each visa-exempt traveler must complete an online entry declaration to receive a travel receipt. Sanitary, security, and immigration checks remain stringent at land, sea, and Lomé’s Gnassingbé Eyadéma International Airport (LFW). Applications must be submitted through the official government platform: voyage.gouv.tg.
Electronic Visa (e-Visa) for Non-African Travelers
As a global visa support agency, we assist travelers worldwide. If you do not hold an African Union passport, this exemption does not apply. However, Togo remains readily accessible via its e-Visa system. Here’s the latest for non-African nationals:
