Electronic visaTogo has completed the full digitalization of its immigration system: every non-exempt traveller must obtain an e-Visa online before arriving at the border. Visas on arrival and express visas are suspended until further notice. Once approved, the travel document is sent by e-mail and must be presented — preferably printed — to the immigration officer.
01 · The essentials
The e-Visa application is made entirely online, with no visit to an embassy or consulate required.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your planned return date and include one blank page.
Togo offers 5 e-Visa options covering stays from 15 to 90 days, single or multiple entry.

Since the digital overhaul of its borders, Togo requires an electronic e-Visa for all non-exempt foreign nationals, regardless of nationality and regardless of the purpose of travel: tourism, business, conference, family visit, medical stay, study, religious event or transit.
Only one category is exempt: citizens of the 14 ECOWAS member states (Economic Community of West African States) as well as nationals of Morocco, who benefit from a bilateral exemption granted on 21 July 2022. Holders of diplomatic and service passports from China, Morocco, Russia and South Africa are also exempt. Several additional agreements have been signed (Central African Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Qatar, Serbia, São Tomé and Príncipe, India, Rwanda) but have not yet entered into force.
For all others — nationals of the European Union, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan and the vast majority of countries worldwide — the e-Visa is mandatory and must be obtained before boarding.
Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone
Bilateral exemption in force since 21 July 2022 — ordinary, diplomatic and service passport.
Togo no longer issues any visa on arrival or express visa. All applications must be submitted online at least 5 days before arrival.
Minimum validity of 6 months after the planned return date, with at least one blank page for the entry stamp.
The Togolese authorities have officially suspended visas on arrival as well as express visas 'until further notice'. Arriving at a point of entry without a valid e-Visa (and without being a national of an exempt country) will result in a refusal of entry into the territory.
02 · The procedure

The application is made entirely online on the official portal of the Togolese government voyage.gouv.tg. The process comprises several distinct steps: an eligibility check, the completion of an immigration form, and then the submission of the visa application itself.
What sets the Togolese system apart is the generation of a unique document called the travel slip. This document proves to airlines and Immigration and Border Police officers that you have not only your residence authorisation, but that your traceability and health information are already registered in the system.
Go to voyage.gouv.tg and create your personal account. The e-mail address entered will be used to receive your approved e-Visa: make sure it is valid and regularly checked.
The visa assistant guides you to confirm that your nationality is not exempt and that the type of visa requested matches your situation (tourism, business, transit, etc.).
Fill in your personal details, your entry and exit dates, your accommodation address in Togo and the purpose of your stay. This form is separate from the visa application.
Upload your digital identity photo (white background, less than 6 months old, JPEG or PNG), a legible scan of your passport identity page and any additional supporting documents required for your purpose of travel.
Pay the consular fees by Visa or Mastercard credit card, or via mobile money (TMoney, Flooz). Cash payment is not accepted.
After processing your application — standard processing time of 5 business days — your approved e-Visa will be sent to you by e-mail. Print it out and keep a digital copy on your phone.
Hand the printed copy of your e-Visa (and your passport) to immigration officers. The e-Visa is accepted at Lomé Gnassingbé Eyadema International Airport (LFW) and at land border posts with Ghana, Benin and Burkina Faso.
The Togolese procedure involves two separate forms: the immigration form (traceability and health information) and the visa application itself. Both are mandatory and must be completed in the correct order. Allow 30 to 45 minutes for the entire process on your first login.
03 · Required documents
Each traveller must submit an individual application, regardless of age. Minor children cannot be included in a parent's file: they must have their own valid passport and their own e-Visa.
04 · Processing times and fees

The standard processing time for an e-Visa application by the Togolese authorities is 5 business days. A 'Business' option may be available on the voyage.gouv.tg platform for accelerated processing announced within 1 hour, but its availability is not permanently guaranteed.
It is strongly recommended to submit your application at least 2 to 3 weeks before the planned departure date to allow for any potential delays. Applications submitted less than 5 days before the planned arrival may not be processed in time.
The consular fees for the Togolese e-Visa are set by the government and denominated in CFA francs (XOF). The exchange rate with the euro is fixed: 1 EUR = 655,957 FCFA. The various options cover stays ranging from 15 days to 90 days, single or multiple entry.
If you wish to extend your stay beyond the duration authorised by your e-Visa, contact the Direction Générale de la Documentation Nationale in Lomé before your visa expires. A new application can also be submitted via the voyage.gouv.tg platform. The maximum length of stay with an e-Visa is 90 days. For a longer stay, contact the Togolese embassy in your country. An unapproved overstay may result in a fine or a temporary entry ban.
05 · Destinations
Small in area but immense in diversity, Togo packs into a single territory an Atlantic coastline, tropical forests, savannahs and mountain ranges. Between its lively capital and its exceptional natural and cultural sites, the country offers a complete change of scenery for the curious traveller.
Between wide modern boulevards and historic markets, Lomé captivates with its unique atmosphere. The Grand Market and its famous 'Nana Benz', the Akodésséwa Fetish Market for ancestral voodoo practices.
Two hours from Lomé, this hiker's paradise reveals tropical forests, hidden waterfalls (Womé, Kamalo) and coffee and cocoa plantations. Centre of Togolese craftsmanship: potters, wood carvers, batik makers.
In the Kara region, the Koutammakou site is home to the Batammariba people and their famous Takienta: earthen fortified houses with turrets and granaries, masterpieces of traditional architecture listed by UNESCO.
Cross Lake Togo by dugout canoe to reach Togoville, the founding village of the country. Animist shrines and Catholic churches coexist here, a symbol of Togolese religious tolerance.
Togolese gastronomy is also well worth the detour: fufu (cassava or yam dumplings), gboma dessi (spinach leaf stew) and grilled fish from the Lomé seafront punctuate the meals of travellers and locals alike. Togo is also a country of weavers: kente cloth and embroidery from the North are among the best souvenirs to bring back.
The country enjoys a tropical climate with two rainy seasons in the south (April–July and October–November) and a single rainy season in the north (June–September). The ideal period to visit the south is from November to March, when the dry season offers clear skies and pleasant temperatures.
06 · Before you leave
The yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for all travellers entering Togo, including ECOWAS nationals who are exempt from the visa. Visit an approved vaccination centre at least 10 days before departure. Without this document, entry into the territory may be refused.
In addition to the mandatory yellow fever vaccination, health authorities also recommend antimalarial prophylaxis (malaria is present throughout the country), vaccines against hepatitis A, typhoid and meningococcal meningitis. Consult a doctor specialising in travel medicine at least 4 to 6 weeks before departure.
Togo has simplified its entry formalities by going fully digital, but the procedure requires planning and thoroughness: two separate forms to complete, a processing time of 5 business days and a mandatory submission at least 5 days before arrival. Plan your steps 2 to 3 weeks in advance, gather all supporting documents from the outset (photo, passport scan, accommodation details) and print your e-Visa before heading to the border, especially if you are using a land crossing that may not have electronic verification systems.
