2 options for Guinea

Choose the visa that fits your trip. Fully online process, real-time tracking.

Guinea has digitised its entry system: tourism, business, family visits, medical, studies, humanitarian work or simple transit — all these procedures now go through an e-Visa issued online by the Air and Border Police (PAF). Once approved, your authorisation is sent by e-mail in the form of an Entry Visa Letter that you print and present at Conakry-Gbessia airport, where the physical visa sticker is affixed in your passport on arrival. A major advantage of the Guinean system: the official fee is strictly identical for all nationalities, guaranteeing absolute equal treatment. The form is accessible, the authorities' portal relatively reliable, and the announced processing time is 72 h for a complete application.

01 · The essentials

The Guinean e-Visa: how does it work?

Passport

Minimum validity of 6 months after the intended arrival date, required for all travellers without exception.

Mandatory vaccination

The international yellow fever vaccination certificate (WHO booklet) is required at entry for all travellers, regardless of nationality.

Online procedure

The e-Visa is entirely paperless — no visit to the embassy and no postal submission required.

The Guinean e-Visa system works in two stages. First, the application is submitted entirely online on the official portal of the Air and Border Police (PAF). Once validated by the authorities, you receive by e-mail an Entry Visa Letter — an entry authorisation letter that you must print and keep with your passport.

Upon arrival at Conakry-Gbessia International Airport, you present yourself at the dedicated PAF e-Visa counter. Your fingerprints and photograph are recorded, then a visa sticker is physically affixed in your passport. It is this sticker that constitutes the official visa — the Entry Visa Letter is only a prior authorisation, not the visa itself.

Critical point to understand: submitting the e-Visa online does not guarantee visa issuance. The application may be accepted or rejected by the Guinean authorities, and administrative fees are never refunded regardless of the outcome. A well-prepared application from the outset — legible documents, supporting evidence consistent with the declared purpose — is therefore essential to maximise the chances of approval.

Good to know
The Guinean e-Visa form is considered fairly straightforward and the authorities' portal is relatively reliable. It is one of the most accessible systems in West Africa, which makes the process easier for independent travellers as well as companies sending staff on assignments.
Universal fee

The official fee is rigorously identical for all nationalities — no discrimination based on country of origin.

100% online

No visit to the embassy, no postal submission. The application, tracking, and receipt of the Entry Visa Letter are done entirely digitally.

Physical visa on arrival

The official sticker is affixed in the passport by the PAF at Conakry airport, after photo and fingerprint capture.

Multi-purpose

A single form type covers all travel purposes: select your category and provide the relevant supporting documents.

02 · Eligibility

Who needs an e-Visa to enter Guinea?

Map of the ECOWAS zone in West Africa
The ECOWAS zone: its 15 member states benefit from free movement to Guinea.

The Guinean e-Visa system is universal: approximately 173 nationalities must go through this procedure to enter the country. If your country is not on the exemption list, the online procedure is mandatory.

European nationals: the entire European continent is concerned — France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Romania, and all other EU member states, as well as the United Kingdom, Norway, Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Iceland, etc.

Americas: Canada, United States, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Venezuela, Uruguay, Cuba, Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica, and all other countries on the continent.

Asia and Oceania: China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and virtually the entire Asian and Oceanian continents. In the Middle East: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Israel, Turkey.

Africa: all African nationals outside ECOWAS and specific agreements (South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, DRC, Angola, Madagascar, Cameroon, Uganda, etc.) must apply for an e-Visa.

Countries and nationals exempt from a visa

The Republic of Guinea applies an open exemption policy to the African continent. 21 nationalities are completely exempt from a visa and the associated fees. These travellers simply need to present a passport (or official identity document, in some cases) and their yellow fever vaccination booklet.

15 ECOWAS member states (free movement): Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo (Guinea itself being an ECOWAS member).

Important note: Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger have officially formalised their withdrawal from ECOWAS to form the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). In practice, and in the name of regional relations, Guinea maintains free movement and the visa exemption for nationals of these three countries.

African bilateral agreements: nationals of the following countries also benefit from an exemption: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Tanzania, Namibia.

Travel Document holders (refugees, stateless persons)

Persons travelling with a Travel Document (refugee or stateless status) are not eligible for the e-Visa. They must apply directly to the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Guinea in their country of residence for a traditional visa.

03 · Visa types

Which e-Visas for Guinea? Available options

The official PAF portal offers 5 main categories of electronic visas. The choice depends on the duration and nature of your stay. Here is an overview of the main options, starting with the two most requested.

The Short-stay e-Visa (Tourist Visa) is by far the most commonly used. It covers a wide range of purposes: tourism, visiting relatives, short business trips, medical, short studies, humanitarian work, and various events (wedding, sport, culture). It authorises a stay of up to 90 days and is valid for 90 days from the date of issue, for a single entry. The official consular fee is 80 USD.

The Transit e-Visa is intended for travellers passing through Guinea without settling there: a long layover requiring leaving the international airport zone, or overland crossing of the country towards a bordering state. It is valid for a maximum of 3 days (72 h), for a single entry, and the onward ticket to the final destination must be provided. The official consular fee is 50 USD.

Long-stay options — Long-stay visa (VLS) valid for 1 year with multiple entries (150 USD), and Transborderment valid for up to 5 years with multiple entries (150 USD) — are intended for extended professional missions, expatriates, or travellers with recurring ties to Guinea. The Diplomatic / Service / Courtesy Visa (VDSC) is for holders of diplomatic or service passports; its duration is determined by the authorities' letter of accreditation.

Note: certain nationalities, notably Canadian and US nationals, benefit in practice from extended validity periods of up to 5 years on their standard visa, based on bilateral agreements.

Note
Agency fees are added to the official consular fees. They cover verification of document compliance, form translation, secure transmission to the PAF portal, tracking of your application, and delivery of your Entry Visa Letter.

Vaccination requirement: no exemptions

The international yellow fever vaccination certificate is required on arrival in Guinea for all travellers, without exception of nationality or age. The absence of this document may result in a denial of entry or a compulsory vaccination on site. Plan this well in advance of your visa application.

05 · The procedure

Step by step: submitting your Guinea e-Visa

  1. 1
    Gather your documents

Collect all supporting documents in digital format: passport copy (clean scan), biometric identity photo, air ticket, yellow fever vaccination certificate, accommodation booking or invitation letter, and any documents specific to your travel purpose.

  2. 2
    Fill in the online form

Complete the form on the official Air and Border Police (PAF) portal or through an intermediary familiar with the procedure. Select the visa type corresponding to your stay (transit, short stay, long stay…) and the appropriate purpose.

  3. 3
    Upload your documents and submit

Attach all required scanned documents. Check the consistency between the declared purpose and the supporting documents provided — any inconsistency is grounds for refusal. Submit the application and keep your application number.

  4. 4
Wait for the decision (72 h for a complete application)

The announced processing time is approximately 72 h (3 working days) for a complete and error-free application. In case of a request for additional documents or high demand, this time may be extended. Allow at least 10 days before the departure date.

  5. 5
Receive and print your Entry Visa Letter

Once the application is approved, you receive your Entry Visa Letter (entry authorisation letter) by e-mail. This document must be printed and kept with your passport throughout the trip.

  6. 6
Formalities on arrival at Conakry airport

Present yourself at the PAF e-Visa counter with: your valid passport, your printed Entry Visa Letter, your return or onward ticket, your international yellow fever vaccination booklet (physical), your accommodation booking or invitation letter, and sufficient financial means. Your fingerprints and photograph are recorded, then the official visa sticker is affixed in your passport.

The official Guinean authorities' website for the e-Visa
The official PAF portal allows you to submit your e-Visa application entirely online.

The Guinean authorities' online system allows you to track the progress of your application after submission. Keep your application number safe: it will be useful for any status check.

If your application is refused, you can submit a new application by correcting the elements that led to the refusal. The consular fees from the initial application are not refunded and new fees will apply to the new application. The quality and consistency of the application from the very first submission are therefore paramount.

For children, each traveller regardless of age must have their own e-Visa and their own individual passport. No inclusion of a child on a parent's visa is possible in the Guinean system.

06 · Before you go

Guinea Conakry: preparing your stay in the water tower of Africa

A raw gem off the beaten track, Guinea promises an authentic adventure for travellers in search of immersion and wild nature. Nicknamed the "water tower of Africa" — as it is home to the sources of the main West African rivers (Niger, Senegal, Gambia) — it offers landscapes of spectacular diversity.

The capital Conakry spreads its colourful energy across a peninsula buffeted by the Atlantic. A short distance away, the Îles de Los (Tamara, Roume, Kassa) offer peaceful beaches, turquoise waters and preserved colonial heritage: an ideal weekend escape from the capital.

The mountainous region of central-west Guinea, the Fouta Djallon, is a paradise for hiking enthusiasts: majestic waterfalls (Saala, Ditinn, Kambadaga), steep cliffs, green plateaux and traditional Fula villages. It is one of the most underrated trekking destinations in West Africa.

In the south-east, the Mount Nimba Strict Nature Reserve is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is home to exceptional biodiversity including endemic species (Nimba viviparous toad, western chimpanzee). Finally, preserved in the village of Niagassola, the Sosso-Bala — an 800-year-old sacred balafon classified by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity — makes every visit an immersion into the Mandinka epic.

Best time to visit

November to April (dry season): ideal for hiking in the Fouta Djallon and travelling around the regions. The rainy season (May to October) makes some tracks impassable but offers lush green scenery and waterfalls at full flow.

Currency and cash

The Guinean franc (GNF) is the local currency. Carry cash for rural areas, as ATMs are rare outside major cities. Euros or US dollars are easily exchanged in Conakry.

Connectivity

Get a local SIM card (Orange Guinea, MTN, Cellcom), available at the airport or in the city on presentation of your passport. Coverage is good in Conakry and major cities.

Language

The official language is French, spoken by a large part of the urban population. Local languages (Susu, Fulani/Fula, Malinke) predominate in the regions.

The procedure is relatively straightforward, the official processing time is 72 h for a complete application, and the consular fee is universal (no difference by nationality). Two absolute points of attention: your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the intended arrival, and your yellow fever vaccination booklet is required without any exception on arrival. Submit your application at least 10 days before departure to absorb any requests for additional documents or technical delays.
