1 option for Ivory Coast

Choose the visa that fits your trip. Fully online process, real-time tracking.

Côte d'Ivoire has digitised its entry formalities through an e-Visa: a genuine electronic visa issued by the Ivorian authorities, which must be applied for before any departure. Valid for stays of up to 90 days on the territory, it covers tourism as well as business travel, medical stays and studies. The process is entirely online — no visit to the consulate required — but it demands care and forward planning: processing times average 5 to 7 working days and the Ivorian authorities do not issue e-Visas at weekends.

01 · The essentials

The Ivorian e-Visa: a fully-fledged electronic visa

100% online

The entire process is carried out online: no postal submission or consulate visit is required, regardless of your situation.

Passport: 6 months

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your intended arrival date in Côte d'Ivoire — a condition that applies to all travellers without exception.

Medium complexity

The process is rated 'medium complexity': the Ivorian authorities do not issue any e-Visas at weekends, processing times commonly reach 5 to 7 working days, and requests for additional documents are frequent.

Example of a Côte d'Ivoire e-Visa – pre-enrolment document
The Ivorian e-Visa takes the form of a PDF document with a barcode, which must be printed in colour before boarding.

The Côte d'Ivoire e-Visa — also known as pre-enrolment — is an official document issued by the Ivorian authorities in the form of a PDF file. It bears a barcode that will be scanned by immigration officers at Abidjan's Félix Houphouët-Boigny Airport. It is not a simple travel pass or travel authorisation: it is a full visa, mandatory for nationalities that are not visa-exempt before any boarding to Côte d'Ivoire.

Unlike an ETA or an electronic travel authorisation reserved for visa-exempt travellers, the Ivorian e-Visa concerns nationals subject to visa requirements. It must be printed in colour and presented to the authorities upon arrival. The document is not electronically linked to the passport: printing it is therefore essential. If you lose it before departure, a copy can be sent by email.

The Ivorian e-Visa is valid for entry by air only, via Abidjan's Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport. For arrivals by sea or land, it is necessary to contact the competent Ivorian authorities directly before departure.

Do not leave the application to the last minute: the Ivorian authorities do not issue any e-Visas at weekends, and processing times average 5 to 7 working days.

02 · Eligibility

Who can apply for an e-Visa for Côte d'Ivoire?

Nationals of member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) enjoy a full visa exemption for travel to Côte d'Ivoire. This includes: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. Also included are the Central African Republic, Congo, Morocco, Mauritania, Seychelles, Singapore, Chad, Tunisia, the Philippines and Rwanda.

For all other nationalities, a visa application is required. A large number are eligible for the Ivorian e-Visa, including nationals of: South Africa, Algeria, Germany, Andorra, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, the Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Bhutan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Burundi, Cameroon, Canada, Cyprus, the Comoros, South Korea, Costa Rica, Croatia, Denmark, Djibouti, the United Arab Emirates, Ecuador, Eritrea, Spain, Estonia, Eswatini, the United States, Ethiopia, Fiji, Finland, France, Gabon, Georgia, Greece, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Hungary, the Cook Islands, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Lesotho, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Malawi, the Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Mexico, Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Niue, Norway, New Zealand, Oman, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Palestine, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Dominican Republic, Romania, the United Kingdom, Russia, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, San Marino, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, El Salvador, São Tomé and Príncipe, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Somalia, Sweden, Switzerland, Suriname, Tajikistan, Tanzania, the Czech Republic, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Tuvalu, Ukraine, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Vatican City, Venezuela, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Nationalities not included on this list eligible for the e-Visa must contact an embassy or consulate of Côte d'Ivoire to submit a standard visa application. Similarly, if your e-Visa application is rejected by the Ivorian authorities, this consular route remains open.

Minors included

All passengers — adults and minors alike — must hold their own e-Visa if they are not nationals of an exempt country. Each traveller submits an individual application, regardless of age.

Born in Côte d'Ivoire

People born in Côte d'Ivoire but not holding an Ivorian passport are subject to the same rules as other foreign nationals. Birth on the territory does not grant an exemption: a visa application is mandatory.

Passport valid 6 months

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your intended arrival date in Côte d'Ivoire. A passport expiring too soon after your arrival will result in a refusal of entry, even if your e-Visa is valid.

Permitted activities

The e-Visa covers tourism, family visits, business travel and conferences, medical treatment, studies and NGO missions. It is not valid for salaried employment in Côte d'Ivoire, which requires a specific work visa.

03 · The procedure

How to obtain your e-Visa for Côte d'Ivoire, step by step

The process is entirely paperless: nothing needs to be sent by post and no consulate visit is required. Via the online form, you submit your personal information and supporting documents through a secure portal. The authorisation is then issued to you in PDF format, to be printed in colour before your departure.

It is strongly recommended to submit your application at least 7 working days before your intended arrival date in Côte d'Ivoire. Processing by the Ivorian authorities takes approximately 5 working days, and some applications may be subject to follow-up requests or requests for additional documents from the authorities, extending the overall timeframe.

  1. 1
    Online form

You complete the online application form with your personal details, passport information and travel details (dates, purpose, accommodation).

  2. 2
    Submission of supporting documents

Once the form is complete, you electronically submit the required documents via a secure portal: passport copy, return flight tickets, proof of accommodation (and a company invitation letter for business travel).

  3. 3
    Document verification

Documents are checked before being transmitted to the Ivorian authorities to verify their compliance and the accuracy of the information entered. This step helps prevent the main causes of refusal or requests for additional documents.

  4. 4
    Processing by the SNEDAI

The Ivorian authorities (SNEDAI) process your application. The usual timeframe is approximately 5 working days. No documents are issued at weekends. Some applications may be subject to follow-up or additional requests from the authorities.

  5. 5
    Receipt of PDF and printing

Once the e-Visa is granted, you receive your PDF document by email. Print it in colour and keep it safe: it must be presented to immigration officers at Abidjan Airport upon your arrival.

Good to know
If you notice an error in your application before submitting your supporting documents, report it immediately along with the corrections. Beyond this stage, no changes are possible. Once the e-Visa has been issued, its data can no longer be modified: if your information differs significantly from that shown on the document, you will need to submit a new complete application.
No response from SNEDAI?
If you have not received a response within the expected timeframe, start by checking your spam folder. You can then check the status of your application directly on the SNEDAI website, or contact them by email. If you submitted your application through an agency, the agency can carry out these steps on your behalf and liaise with the Ivorian authorities.

04 · Required documents

What documents are needed for the Côte d'Ivoire e-Visa?

Flag of Côte d'Ivoire
Côte d'Ivoire, in West Africa, welcomes visitors and professionals with its unified e-Visa.

The list of documents to be provided is precise and must be assembled carefully before submitting your application. Any missing or non-compliant document may cause a processing delay or even a request for additional information from the Ivorian authorities.

The essential documents for all types of stay are as follows:

  • Passport copy valid for at least 6 months after the intended arrival date in Côte d'Ivoire.
  • Named return air tickets (or onward travel ticket if Côte d'Ivoire is not your final destination).
  • Legalised proof of accommodation: named hotel reservation with the dates of stay, or a legalised invitation letter accompanied by a copy of the identity document of the host residing in Côte d'Ivoire.

For business travel, an additional document is required:

  • Invitation letter from the Ivorian company, legalised by a local town hall (mairie), stating the telephone number and full address of the entity in Côte d'Ivoire.
Summary of documents to prepare
  • Passport copyValid for at least 6 months after the arrival date. All identification pages must be legible.
  • Named air ticketsReturn ticket (or onward ticket). Tickets must be issued in the applicant's name.
  • Proof of accommodationNamed hotel reservation with dates, or a legalised invitation letter from the host with a copy of their identity document.
  • Company invitation letter (business only)Legalised by a local Ivorian town hall, with telephone number and address of the entity in Côte d'Ivoire.
  • Enrolment documents (studies only)Admission letter from an Ivorian educational institution, invitation letter from the host organisation, and proof of sufficient funding for the duration of the stay.
Error in the application: act quickly
If an error is found in your application, the correction must be reported before the administrative documents are submitted. After this stage, no changes can be made to the application in progress. If the e-Visa has already been issued, its data is final: a new complete application will need to be submitted if the information differs significantly.

05 · Validity & extension

Length of stay, multiple entries and extension

The Ivorian e-Visa is valid for stays of a maximum of 90 days. Its 90-day validity period begins on the date the PDF document is issued — and not from the date of entry into the territory. It is therefore advisable not to apply too far in advance of your intended departure date, as the document's validity may begin to run before you even arrive in Côte d'Ivoire.

The e-Visa is a multiple-entry visa: you can enter and exit Ivorian territory multiple times during the 90-day validity period. The same traveller may also submit up to 3 e-Visa applications in the same calendar year.

The question also arises for travellers wishing to extend their stay beyond 90 days. Côte d'Ivoire formally allows the extension of the e-Visa, but the process must be carried out at an immigration office on the ground, and approval is not guaranteed. It is therefore strongly advisable to anticipate this process and submit it to the competent authorities well before the current visa expires, without waiting until the last few days.

Extension: plan ahead
The extension of the Ivorian e-Visa is processed at an immigration office in Côte d'Ivoire. Approval is not automatic: the authorities assess each application on its own merits. The sooner you initiate the process before your visa expires, the greater your chances of receiving a response in time. Do not leave this until the final week.
Changes to travel dates
If you need to change your travel dates after your e-Visa has been issued, you will generally need to submit a new complete application providing the new dates. The data on an Ivorian e-Visa cannot be modified once the document has been issued.

06 · Before you leave

Preparing well for your trip to Côte d'Ivoire

Obtaining the e-Visa is a key step, but it is not the only preparation to plan before travelling to Côte d'Ivoire. Several practical points deserve checking in advance: the validity of your passport, your entry conditions, your health coverage and any specificities related to your purpose of travel. Here is a summary of the essential points to check before departure.

Côte d'Ivoire is a destination that combines natural riches with economic dynamism. The country has an Atlantic coastline with beach resorts, forested massifs in the western zone, and an economic metropolis — Abidjan — which ranks among the most active in sub-Saharan Africa. Business travellers will find a structured professional environment, particularly in the sectors of trade, agri-food industry and financial services.

Single entry airport

The e-Visa is only valid for arrival by air via Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport in Abidjan. Any arrival by sea or land requires separate steps with the Ivorian authorities.

Passport: minimum validity

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your intended arrival date. Check its expiry date well before your departure: insufficient validity will result in a refusal of entry, even if your e-Visa is valid.

Travel insurance

Although not mandatory to obtain the Ivorian e-Visa, travel insurance is strongly recommended. It covers medical expenses, hospitalisation and emergency repatriation, which can represent significant costs in the event of an incident.

Vaccination: yellow fever

A vaccination certificate is not currently required to obtain the Côte d'Ivoire e-Visa. However, it is advisable to consult your doctor or a travel health centre before departure, particularly regarding yellow fever, malaria and standard travel vaccinations.

  • Named return air ticketsMake sure your tickets are issued in your name. For a stopover or final destination other than Côte d'Ivoire, an onward ticket is accepted.
  • Proof of accommodationNamed hotel reservation with the dates of stay, or a legalised invitation letter from your host with a copy of their identity document.
  • Company invitation letter (business travel)Legalised by a local Ivorian town hall, with full contact details of the entity in Côte d'Ivoire.
  • Travel insuranceNot mandatory for the e-Visa, but strongly recommended to cover medical expenses, hospitalisation and emergency repatriation during the stay.

Key takeaways

The Côte d'Ivoire e-Visa is a genuine electronic visa — not to be confused with a simple travel authorisation — issued by the Ivorian authorities for nationalities subject to visa requirements. It permits stays of up to 90 days, with multiple entries, for tourism, business, studies or medical treatment. The process is entirely online, but the processing complexity is real: apply at least 7 working days before departure, carefully assemble your supporting documents, and print your PDF in colour to present at Abidjan Airport.
