Turkey and Saudi Arabia Officially Sign Visa Waiver Deal for Certain Passports

Turkey and Saudi Arabia have officially signed a mutual visa exemption agreement covering diplomatic and special passports, easing official travel between Ankara and Riyad.

Turkey and Saudi Arabia have signed a mutual visa exemption agreement covering holders of diplomatic and special passports. The accord was finalized in Ankara during the meeting of the Turkish-Saudi Coordination Council, attended by the foreign ministers of both nations.

This measure streamlines official travel between Ankara and Riyad within an already strengthened bilateral cooperation framework. At this stage, it does not apply to holders of regular passports, who remain subject to standard visa requirements.

What official sources confirm

According to the statement issued through Saudi official channels, the agreement provides for reciprocal visa waivers for diplomatic and special passports.

On the Turkish side, official communications linked to the Ankara meeting also note that the signing of the agreement was among the outcomes of the 3rd meeting of the Turkey-Saudi Arabia Coordination Council.

Prior to this signing, Reuters reported that an agreement was expected during discussions between the foreign ministers, based on a Turkish diplomatic source. The agency noted that the initiative was initially slated to cover both regular and diplomatic passports, though subsequent statements show the scope was ultimately narrower.

For ordinary travelers, this does not represent a general visa waiver between the two countries. In practice, those traveling on official business now face a simplified process, while other categories remain subject to standard procedures.

For tourism, Turks can currently travel to Saudi Arabia with an e-Visa, while Saudis enjoy a 60-day exemption in Turkey.
