Chad: Mandatory Electronic Visa (e-Visa) Comes into Force

From May 11, 2026, travelers to Chad must obtain an e-Visa before arrival. Discover the new online-only process, exempted nationalities, and key requirements for entry.

As of 11 May 2026, Chad has fully digitised its visa process. No more queues at consulates or manual approvals—all applications must now be submitted online.

The initiative by the Chadian authorities began in 2019. An official online portal has been operational since December 2024. Starting this month, international travellers are required to secure an e-Visa in advance before travelling to Chad.

What’s changing for travel to Chad

The Chadian government’s official visa portal is now eVisa.td, and all applications—whether for tourism, business or family visits—must go through this online platform. A grace period applies until 21 May 2026, but after that date any visa issued offline will be invalid at the border. Manual entry permissions have been phased out.

Short-stay e-Visas are issued online for visits not exceeding 90 days. Extensions may be requested on arrival through the Directorate of Emigration and Immigration.

Existing visa holders, do not worry: Classic visas issued before 11 May remain valid until their original expiry date.

💡 Did you know?
The e-Visa puts Chad on par with regional leaders like Rwanda and Kenya, aiming to slash processing times and ease border crossings.

Who needs Chad’s e-Visa?

In short, nearly all international visitors. The e-Visa is the new standard, with just two waivers. Diplomatic and courtesy visas continue to be managed offline via Chadian missions worldwide.

The following African and Caribbean nationalities can enter without a visa for up to 90 days: Barbados, Benin, Bermuda, Cameroon, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Dominica, Gabon, The Gambia, Equatorial Guinea, Haiti, Mauritius, Cook Islands, Malaysia, Mali, Micronesia, Niger, Nigeria, Philippines, Central African Republic, Rwanda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Singapore and Suriname.

Essential documents for your e-Visa application

To prevent delays or rejections, ensure your digital application is complete and accurate. Prepare:

  • A valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity and two blank pages.

  • A recent digital passport-style photograph, compliant with ICAO standards.

  • Travel proof: round-trip air ticket, confirmed hotel booking or certified business invitation letter (required for work visas).

  • A yellow fever vaccination certificate—still required for entry.

Ready to apply? Start at least 7–10 days before your flight; while the new system is faster, advance submissions remain advisable.
