Chad Introduces Electronic Visa System
The Republic of Chad has launched a digital e-Visa system accessible via the official eVisa.td portal, simplifying short-stay travel authorization for eligible visitors.
The Republic of Chad has marked a major milestone in its digital modernization journey with the launch of its e-Visa system, accessible through the official portal eVisa.td, first announced in 2019.
The platform now enables travelers who require a visa to apply online for a short-stay visa, valid for up to 90 days with multiple entries into the country.
The online portal was officially inaugurated during a formal ceremony at the National Police Directorate in N’Djamena. Led by Tahir Hamid Nguilin, Minister of State responsible for Finance, the Budget, the Economy, and Planning, the event underscored a pivotal moment in the country’s administrative history.
Chad now joins a select group of nations adopting this technology, ranking 26th globally in electronic visa implementation. A standard e-Visa allowing up to 90 days in Chad costs 100 €.

How the Chad e-Visa works
The process is designed to be straightforward: eligible travelers can submit their application, pay the fee, and receive their travel authorization electronically. The government recommends submitting applications between 90 and 7 days before arrival.
The online form collects standard details—passport information, personal and contact data, profession—and requires travelers to specify the purpose of their visit: tourism, business, studies, or family visit.
Eligibility extends to virtually all nationalities requiring a visa, except a handful of neighboring and regional countries: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo, and the United Arab Emirates.
This digital shift reflects a broader modernization strategy driven by President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno. Minister Tahir Hamid Nguilin emphasized the achievement: “It demonstrates the Marshal’s commitment to digitizing public services—a tangible reality now backed and advanced by the government.”
Digital transformation in action
The introduction of the e-Visa is part of the much larger Projet d’Appui à la Transformation Numérique (PATN), backed by a World Bank grant of 76.45 billion CFA francs. The initiative aims to bridge the digital divide, enhance nationwide connectivity, and expand access to digital public services.
While the rollout has generated strong enthusiasm, a few practical challenges remain—most notably, the online payment system was not fully operational at launch, though improvements are expected shortly.

Why visit Chad?
The country is home to extraordinary and little-known natural and cultural treasures. The UNESCO-listed Lakes of Ounianga deliver breathtaking desert beauty, while Zakouma National Park shelters exceptional wildlife and unforgettable safari opportunities. These treasures are complemented by the vibrant cultural mosaic created by the nation’s many ethnic groups.
