Visamundi introduces passport scanner to auto-fill visa applications
Simplify visa paperwork with Visamundi’s AI-powered passport scanner that reads MRZ data and auto-fills application forms, cutting errors and processing time.
Visamundi continues to expand and roll out innovative services that simplify life for its traveller clients. Among the latest additions is a passport scanner.
Instead of laboriously typing out passport details for family members or colleagues, the scanner uses optical character recognition to automatically populate the fields: passport number, first name, surname, date of birth, issue and expiry dates and more.
This means fewer filing errors: if your nationality is not eligible for the requested visa or your passport is expired, an alert appears before you proceed. A quick review of the scanned details and you’re ready to move on. The tool works on both standard computers with a webcam and mobile phones.

The scanner reads the Machine-Readable Zone (MRZ) on the passport—this is the same strip of text checked by border authorities using optical scanners. It contains traveller data such as name, date of birth and issuing country, plus passport metadata like expiry date and identification number. By automating the capture and text recognition steps, digital paperwork is processed faster, especially when travelling on a large scale.
Visamundi’s long‑standing reputation for safeguarding traveller data remains intact: the technology encrypts passport photos only for the purpose of completing forms and does not retain any copies on its servers.
The feature is being rolled out destination by destination. The first to benefit are Sri Lanka and Myanmar.
