Kazakhstan Launches Digital Nomad Visa Program

Kazakhstan unveils a new 'Neo Nomad Visa' for remote workers, offering a year-long stay with a $3,000 monthly income requirement and a gateway to Central Asia's untapped potential.

The world has shifted dramatically in recent years, driven by the rise of digital technologies that enable radical new forms of remote work. Kazakhstan is no exception, and the country’s bold new initiative could fundamentally change how digital professionals approach their careers. By introducing a digital nomad visa, the nation is positioning itself as a magnet for global talent—offering remote workers a unique opportunity to blend productivity with rich cultural discovery.

What is a digital nomad visa?

A digital nomad visa is a specialized residency permit designed for freelancers, remote employees, and independent contractors who work online. Unlike traditional visas, it allows “nomads” to live in one country while serving clients or companies abroad. The goal is to foster a mobile workforce: talented professionals gain geographic freedom without disconnecting from their international income streams or compromising their livelihood.

We even launched an initiative called Nomamundi, specifically to assist digital nomads in securing these special travel documents.

The advantages of a digital nomad visa go far beyond mobility. These permits typically simplify admin hurdles, enabling stays of months or even years, so professionals can plant roots without sacrificing their remote careers. Governments often sweeten the deal with lucrative tax incentives—low or zero foreign-earnings taxes—to make the move even more appealing.

Why Kazakhstan stands out

Kazakhstan bundles rich cultural heritage with breathtaking landscapes—blending Asian tradition and European flair—in a safe, much more affordable setting than many tourist hotspots. From snow-capped peaks to sweeping steppe, the nation offers both inspirational scenery and ripe infrastructure for a nomadic lifestyle. According to tourism chiefs, the “at least 35 million” global nomadic workforce already has a destination waiting in Central Asia.

It’s critical momentum, as 50 countries worldwide have rolled out similar programs. There are about 35 million digital nomads globally. With our ‘Neo Nomad Visa,’ they can stay up to a year—provided they clear a minimum monthly income of $3,000 and remain fully employed outside Kazakhstan.
