Russia modernizes its borders. If you're one of the travelers who benefit from a visa exemption for the Russian Federation, a new digital step is now mandatory before your departure. This system RuID (Gosuslugi RuID) turns entry into a digitalized process.
Here's our practical guide to anticipating this process and avoiding denied boarding.
Several Russian embassies have publicized this new measure to inform their citizens about this formality, which has been in force since June 30, 2025 to June 30, 2026.

What is RuID and why the change?
The Russian government has launched an experimental phase (Decree no. 1510) aimed at creating a โdigital profileโ for each foreign visitor. Effective until June 30, 2026, this system will gradually replace the old manual procedures and the traditional paper card.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Who is exempt from RuID? RuID does not apply to NOT to the following travelers:
- Holders of a Classic visa (tourism, business, etc.).
- Holders of a E-Visa (electronic visa).

Step-by-step guide: How do I register?
For travelers from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Brazil, South Africa or certain CIS countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tadzhikistan and Uzbekistan, Ukraine), here's how to proceed:
1. Download and Profile
Install the application ruID on your smartphone. You can create an account with a simple e-mail address (a Russian telephone number is not required at this stage). The interface is available in several languages, including English.
2. Biometric data entry
This is the crucial step. You'll need to download :
-A photo of your passport.
-A selfie.
Sometimes a voice recording (depending on app updates).
3. Notification of entry (72h before)
Fill in the travel form and specify :
-Planned dates of stay.
-Reason for visit.
-Regions visited.
In urgent cases, the deadline may be reduced to 4 hours, This is subject to the provision of digital supporting documents in the application.
What happens at the border?
Once your request has been validated, the application generates a QR Code. On arrival at the airport (Moscow Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, etc.) or at land border crossings, follow these steps:
- QR Code presentation : The agent scans your code to access your digital profile.
- Biometric control : A control photo and fingerprints will be taken on site to confirm the match with RuID data.
- Validation : If everything matches, entry is validated electronically. No need to fill out paper forms on the plane!
Our agency's advice!
Passport : Make sure your passport photo is perfectly legible, without reflections, to avoid OCR errors.
Login : Make a screenshot of your QR Code before departure. Airport Wi-Fi can be temperamental.
