Antigua's volcanoes, the Maya temples of Tikal, the shores of Lake Atitlán: before exploring Guatemala, every traveler must complete the Declaración Jurada Regional de Viajero (DJRV), an online customs declaration. Free of charge, it applies to all travelers entering or leaving Guatemala by air or by sea, and can be completed up to 15 days before the travel date. Visamundi can prepare, check and submit your declaration for you.

01 · Key facts

The DJRV, Guatemala's electronic traveler's declaration

Online

The declaration is completed online before travel; the paper version is now only used when the IT systems are down.

Free

No government fee is charged for the declaration, whatever your nationality.

Up to 15 days ahead

The declaration can be completed up to 15 days before the date of entry or exit.

Official DJRV form: personal details
The official form asks for your personal details, exactly as they appear in your passport (screenshot from our test, fictitious data).

Managed by the SAT (Superintendencia de Administración Tributaria), Guatemala's tax and customs administration, the DJRV is a customs declaration: it records your luggage and the goods you carry. It is neither a visa nor an immigration formality.

Electronic since 24 July 2023, it has replaced the paper form, which is now only used when the IT systems are down. Once the declaration is saved, you receive a declaration number and a QR code, which you can download at the end of the form and which are also sent by email.

02 · Eligibility

Who needs to complete the DJRV?

The rule is universal: all travelers, Guatemalans and foreigners alike, entering or leaving Guatemala by air or by sea must complete the DJRV, whatever their nationality or reason for travel.

A single declaration can cover spouses and their minor children. Other relatives (grandparents, adult children…) each complete their own, as does every member of a sports team, minors included.

The DJRV does not replace a visa. Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality, and visa-exempt travelers must complete the declaration too.
