Travel authorizationTo enter Cape Verde, most travellers don't need a traditional visa: they need an EASE, the archipelago's mandatory electronic pre-registration. It's an online travel authorisation — close to an ETA — to request a few days before departure. You receive a PDF to print and present on arrival, which is by air only.
01 · The essentials

The EASE (Electronic Authorization for Entry) is for nationals of visa-exempt countries, for tourism, business, medical or study stays. It allows a maximum of 30, 60 or 90 days depending on your nationality, counted from your arrival on Cape Verdean territory.
So you don't need to file a traditional visa application as long as your stay doesn't exceed the authorised duration. However, the authorities require every traveller, regardless of nationality, to complete this online declaration a few days before arrival. Your passport must remain valid for at least six months after your planned departure date from Cape Verde.
In practice, you fill in the form online, then send a copy of your passport so your data can be checked before submission. Approval takes the form of a travel authorisation as a PDF: it's up to you to print it and present it on arrival. It's this document — not a stamp issued on the spot — that determines your entry into the archipelago.
02 · Where to land
The EASE is only valid for arrival by air, at one of the archipelago's four international airports. You'll enter the arrival airport in your application: make sure it exactly matches your entry flight, as that's where your authorisation will be checked at immigration.
03 · Who it's for
Obtaining an EASE is mandatory to enter Cape Verde. Several categories of travellers are nevertheless exempt, mainly because of ties to the country.
People whose parent or spouse holds Cape Verdean nationality, as well as those born Cape Verdean (on presentation of a birth certificate proving dual nationality).
Holders of a Cape Verdean passport, their children under 18 and their spouse, as well as passengers of Cape Verdean origin.
Children under two and foreign nationals settled in Cape Verde with resident status.
Official trips, flights diverted for technical or weather reasons, and transit situations.
For a stay longer than 30 days, the EASE is no longer enough: you'll need to apply for a traditional visa at a Cape Verde Embassy, in France or your country of residence.
From 1 January 2026, travellers whose nationality requires a visa will have to apply for it before boarding for Cape Verde, or risk being denied boarding.
04 · How to

The pre-registration procedure is done entirely online. We recommend starting your application at least five days before arrival, to be sure of receiving your EASE in time. Every step matters: it's best to prepare your supporting documents in advance for a smooth entry.
The required documents are deliberately light: a scan of the first page of your passport — the one with your identity details, date of birth and number — and a copy of your flight tickets. Make sure all the information is perfectly legible.
Scan the first page of your passport and have a copy of your flight tickets ready, with perfectly legible information.
State the purpose of your stay (tourism, business, study), the arrival airport among the four eligible ones, your flight number and your accommodation (hotel name, address, phone).
Pay the mandatory airport security tax of 3,400 CVE (about €31), directly online by bank transfer.
You get your EASE by email. Check it matches your application, then print it for convenience on arrival.
The formalities therefore come down to three entries: your passport data, the details of your stay, and the information about your flights, travel dates and place of accommodation (hotel, family or friends). Note: your passport's validity must exceed your EASE's expiry date by at least six months.
05 · Time, validity & price
The average processing time for an EASE application is around 48 hours, but some can take two to five days depending on the volume handled by the Cape Verdean authorities. Hence our recommendation to allow at least five days.
Sometimes 2 to 5 days depending on demand. Start the procedure at least 5 days before departure to travel with peace of mind.
The form is simple and the EASE is obtained quickly, but the email verification code doesn't always arrive instantly, and the authorisation can take 24 to 48 hours. Remember to track your application and, if it's delayed, to contact the authorities.
Once issued, the EASE remains valid for one year from its date of issue. It allows a stay of 30, 60 or 90 days depending on your nationality, for a single entry. If you leave the archipelago before it expires and wish to return, a new application will be required.
The airport security tax of 3,400 Cape Verdean escudos (CVE) is paid online during pre-registration. The service fees of the agency assisting you are added on top.
In short, the EASE is a simple but unavoidable formality to set foot on Cape Verdean soil. Apply at least five days ahead, check that your information matches your travel documents — passport and flight tickets first — and keep your PDF handy, both on your phone and printed. It's the key to a smooth passage through immigration, and your assurance of enjoying the archipelago without any nasty surprise on arrival.
06 · Before you go
A few simple precautions prevent most rejections. Enter your details exactly as they appear on your passport — surname, given names, number and dates — because a single typo in the passport number or a wrong date of birth can be enough to invalidate the EASE and complicate your passage through immigration. Also check that your stay dates match your flight tickets.
Bear in mind that each traveller must have their own EASE, apart from the exemption cases mentioned above (notably children under two). If you travel as a family or group, plan one application per person concerned and start all the steps at the same time so as not to multiply waiting times.
Finally, carefully keep the payment confirmation and the EASE received by email, both on your phone and printed. The airport security tax is single-use: for a new trip after expiry, or after a first departure from the archipelago followed by a return, a new application — and a new payment — will be required.
