Egypt launches a long-term multiple-entry visa and free transit visa

Egypt introduces a free transit visa for short stays and a new 5-year multiple-entry visa, alongside EgyptAir’s recognition as Africa’s fastest-recovering airline.

EgyptAir has recently announced a complimentary transit visa for travelers, allowing them to enter Egypt and stay for between 8 and 96 hours.

This new policy aims to boost tourism in Egypt as part of broader efforts to meet the sustainable development goals outlined in the country’s Vision 2030 strategy. The visa is available only upon arrival at Cairo International Airport, where travelers must visit the EgyptAir transit desk to complete a form before receiving the visa free of charge.

This announcement comes at a time when EgyptAir has gained recognition for its resilience during the coronavirus pandemic. At the recent Athens 2.2 Airline Marketing Workshop, hosted annually by Athens International Airport, EgyptAir was named Africa’s "fastest-recovering airline." The workshop’s results highlighted airlines’ recovery success based on passenger demand and continued flight operations.

Additionally, EgyptAir climbed 26 places in the latest Skytrax World Airline Rankings, rising to 95th globally compared to 121st in 2021, while Qatar Airways retained its top spot globally for the second year in a row.

EgyptAir’s free transit visa policy is a bold move to drive tourism in Egypt while strengthening its position as a leading airline both in Africa and beyond.

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior has also introduced a new 5-year multiple-entry visa system for foreign visitors. This visa allows holders to stay in the country for up to 90 days per trip at a cost of 700 USD (see fee details). Fees for other visa types remain unchanged.

Last year, over 11.7 million tourists visited Egypt — a 66.2% increase from the previous year, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The number of visitors is expected to grow by a further 28% in 2023, reaching 15 million.
