Cambodia’s e-Arrival: Faster Entry Process at Siem Reap-Angkor in 2024

Cambodia’s new e-Arrival system promises faster, paper-free entry via Siem Reap-Angkor in 2024. Discover how it works and its benefits for travelers.

The Cambodian government is set to launch the e-Arrival electronic entry system at the new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport in 2024. Aimed at streamlining customs and immigration procedures for international travelers and reducing paper use, e-Arrival will digitize entry formalities.

A Streamlined Entry Process for Cambodia in 2024

During the inauguration of the new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport in 2023, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced a pilot scheme for e-Arrival in 2024. The system will modernize existing paper-based entry procedures, replacing them progressively with a digital process managed by the General Department of Immigration of Cambodia.

According to Hun Manet, the initiative is designed to simplify customs and immigration processes and promote digital technology over paper:

"I would like to inform you that the General Department of Immigration is preparing a new e-Arrival project to first simplify customs and immigration procedures, and second to reduce the use of paper in favor of electronic technology."

Cutting Wait Times and Stress with e-Arrival

The e-Arrival system will introduce several benefits for international visitors and business travelers to Cambodia. These include:

  • Time savings: Digitized entry formalities will streamline airport processes for faster clearance.

  • Less stress: Digital forms eliminate the need to fill out error-prone paper documents.

  • Eco-friendly impact: By reducing paper use, e-Arrival supports more sustainable administrative procedures.

International travelers entering Cambodia already have access to an electronic visa (e-Visa): Tourist or Business e-Visa options under $50, allowing a single entry, a maximum 30-day stay, and three months of validity.

Cambodia Entry Requirements: What Travelers Need to Know

Most foreign visitors—except those from Kosovo and a dozen visa-exempt countries—must obtain a visa before or upon arrival in Cambodia, either through an embassy or via the e-Visa system.

The new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport, slated to open in 2023, marks a major development for Cambodia’s tourism sector. Once e-Arrival is implemented, it will significantly ease international passenger transit. Authorities will need to ensure security and public order around the airport.
