Thailand Delays First Phase of National ETA Launch
Thailand postpones its electronic travel authorization (ETA) system from December 2024 after official announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, citing preparations for a smooth rollout.
Thailand had initially planned to launch its Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system in December 2024. However, the Thai government has since announced a delay to the rollout through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier this week.
No New Launch Date Announced
According to an official statement from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ETA launch date has been pushed back to "a later date." While local heavy flooding may have contributed to the postponement, the additional time will allow Thai authorities to refine the system and ensure a seamless transition for all stakeholders involved.
The ETA was originally set to roll out in three distinct phases, with a full rollout and mandatory compliance expected by summer 2025.
Technical Details of Thailand’s ETA System
Application Process
All ETA applications will be submitted through an online process via the official portal: https://evisa.go.th. Travelers will need to provide the following information:
Biographical data
Passport details
Travel information
A digital photograph adhering to ICAO standards
The system will automatically cross-check the provided data against databases maintained by Interpol and Thai immigration services.
Thailand also plans to launch a dedicated website for traveler information: https://entrythailand.go.th/en.

Processing Times and Validity of Thailand’s ETA
Once submitted, ETA applications are expected to be processed within 24 to 72 hours. Once approved, the ETA will be valid for 60 days from its date of issue and will allow for multiple entries into Thailand during that period.
Countries Covered by the ETA
The ETA will apply to nationals of the 93 countries and territories currently eligible for visa exemptions to enter Thailand. These include: Germany, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Spain, the United States, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Switzerland.
