It's undoubtedly one of the most complex countries in terms of entry formalities: Algeria is opening up to modernity by planning an e-Visa, at least for tourism.
The government, through its Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad, has announced several measures to boost visits to this Maghreb country through a "Destination Algeria Plan. No implementation date has yet been announced, but there's no doubt that it will be a quick turnaround for this high-potential sector.
In 2019, Algeria welcomed around 2.4 million foreign visitors, recording an increase on the previous year's figure of 2.38 million. The main countries of origin of foreign visitors to Algeria are France, Tunisia, China, Spain, Germany and Italy.
According to data from the International Monetary Fund, tourism revenues in Algeria amounted to around 800 million USD in 2019. Algeria's main tourist destinations are the Kasbah of Algiers, the Tassili n'Ajjer National Park, the Bardo National Museum of Prehistory and Ethnography, the Basilica of Notre-Dame d'Afrique, the Hamma Jardin d'Essai and the beaches of the Mediterranean coast.
