Decide when to go on a trip can be a real headache, between budget constraints, weather conditions and cultural events not to be missed. Here are some key elements to help you choose the right time to go and discover the world.
Take into account seasons and temperatures
Knowing when to go depending on the seasons and temperatures is essential to fully enjoy your stay. It is important to find out about the specific climatic conditions in each country and region to avoid unpleasant surprises once you are there.
The rainy season and the dry season
In some countries, we talk more about dry season and of rainy season rather than spring, summer, autumn and winter. Tropical countries are particularly affected. The dry season is generally the most pleasant month for travelling, with warm but bearable temperatures and little rainfall.
On the contrary, the rainy season is often synonymous with heavy rainfall and high humidity. Although this is not a deal breaker, it is preferable to favor the dry season to discover these destinations, especially if you plan to do outdoor activities.
Extreme temperatures
Some countries are experiencing extreme temperatures depending on the season. For example, Middle Eastern countries can be very hot in summer, with temperatures regularly exceeding 40°C. It is therefore best to choose spring or autumn to visit these destinations to avoid the high temperatures.
Conversely, some Nordic countries experience very harsh winters with temperatures well below zero and very long night periods. If you are not a fan of winter sports, it is better to choose the milder months to travel to these countries.
Take cultural events into account
Many countries organize cultural events that are worth a visit and can influence your choice of time to go on a trip. Festivals, carnivals, national holidays… So many opportunities to discover the local culture from a different angle and live a unique experience.
However, it is important to keep in mind that certain key dates can also generate high tourist traffic and increase accommodation prices, so make sure to book well in advance if you are planning to attend a particular event.
Managing your budget: low and high season
Depending on the destinations, there is a low and high season which influence the prices of accommodation, flights and activities. Going in the low season can allow you to make significant savings on your travel budget.
However, it is important to check whether the weather conditions remain pleasant during this period and whether tourist sites are accessible. Some attractions may be closed or have reduced opening hours during the low season.
Traveling with children or pets
When traveling with children, it is best to choose destinations that are suited to their age and interests. School holidays often mean higher prices, but they also offer a wide range of activities and entertainment for younger children.
If you want to travel with your pet, find out about the entry formalities in the destination country and the transport conditions. Some countries impose quarantine on arrival, while others require a passport and specific vaccinations.
Administrative procedures: visa and passport
Finally, before leaving on your trip, check the administrative procedures required to enter the destination country. Some countries require a visa which can take time to obtain, while others require a passport valid for a minimum period beyond your return date.
