A mandatory digital customs form for Ecuador

July 29, 2025 marks a change for all travelers to and from Ecuador: the Customs Register Form (Formulario de Registro Aduanero, in French) previously required only in specific cases, will become mandatory for absolutely everyone crossing the country's borders.

Until now, the PIF only applied to travelers carrying taxable goods or sums of money in excess of USD 10,000, and was paper-based. However, from this date, all travellers entering or leaving Ecuador, whether by air or land, must complete this online form. which will therefore function as a pseudo-arrival card. This measure does not no exception.

What does the form cover and how do I fill it in?

The Customs Register Form (CRF) is not limited to baggage contents. It asks for personal information, travel and flight details, and standard customs declarations. Once the form has been submitted online, travellers will receive a QR code, which must be presented to immigration and customs officials at border controls. The absence of this QR code could result in fines, or even refusal of entry to or exit from the country.

To ensure a smooth journey, Ecuadorian customs authorities encourage travellers to complete the following form as soon as possible. Although it can be completed online up to 3 days (72 hours) before departureIt is advisable not to wait until the last minute.

Here are the steps for completing the FRA:

1. Go to the official customs website : Visit the Ecuadorian National Customs Service website at www.aduana.gob.ec.
2. Navigate to the FRA section: In the top menu, click on "Citizen Services", then select "For travellers", and finally "Customs Register Form".
3. Create an account or log in : New users will need to create an account on the ECUAPASS platform with their passport or ID number and a password. Existing users can simply log in.
4. Fill in the form : Enter your personal information, trip details and make any necessary declarations.
5. Submit form : Quote up to 72 hours before your trip.
6. Receive and save the QR code : After submission, you will be issued a QR code. You need to download it or keep it on your phone to show it to officials.
