European Union: EES to come into force on October 12, 2025

The European Union will implement the input-output system (EES)is a major step in the modernization of the management of the Schengen area's external borders. This system mainly concerns third-country nationals arriving for a short stay, whether they need a visa or not. This new system, which has been in deployment since 2022, will finally be launched on October 12, 2025.

The EES system will replace manual buffer on passports, with fully digital collection of information linked to travelers' passage: their name, passport number, photo and fingerprints, as well as the date, time and place of entry into and exit from the Schengen area. Refusal of entry will also be recorded. These data will be stored for three years in a centralized database.
