What's new: back to simplicity

Mexico's Secretariat of External Relations (SRE) has made official the reactivation of the Electronic Authorization System for Brazilian passport holders. In concrete terms, this means the end of the physical visa requirement (requiring an appointment at the consulate and a sticker in the passport) for the vast majority of tourists.

Key points to remember :
Target audience: Brazilian citizens.
New: Possibility of obtaining an E-Visa (electronic authorization) instead of a consular visa.
Prerequisite: Arrival in Mexico by air only.

Eligibility requirements

This measure is designed to facilitate tourism and short business trips, but there are strict rules that must be respected to avoid being denied boarding.

1. Transport mode :

This is the critical point of this reform: the electronic authorization is only valid if you land at a Mexican airport.

Arrival by air : Electronic authorization is accepted.
Arrival by land or sea : A physical consular visa is still required.

2. The reason for the trip

The authorization covers several reasons for travel so activities must be unpaid, in particular :
-Tourism and vacations
-Transit
-Business (meetings, conferences, supervision, without receiving a salary on Mexican soil).

3. Length of stay
The electronic authorization is generally valid for one single entry and allows a stay of up to 180 days.

How do I obtain a Mexico E-Visa?

For travelers, the procedure is once again paperless. Here are the key steps to guarantee document validity:
Online form : The request is made on the official portal.
Data entry : It is crucial to fill in the information exactly as it appears on the Brazilian passport (beware of accents and double names).
Lead time : The response is usually very quick.
Document printing : Once approved, the document must be printed. Airlines departing from Brazil require the paper version to authorize boarding.
Important note: The SAE has a specific validity window for entry into the country (often 30 days after issue). It is advisable to apply around 2 weeks before departure, rather than several months in advance.

The electronic visa application platform remains accessible to nationals of the following countries: Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.

Reminder: Who is completely visa-free?

Some Brazilian travelers require neither a physical visa nor an electronic visa. Entry to Mexico is by passport only for holders of :
-A valid visa or permanent residence for the Canadathe UNITED STATES, THE Japan or the United Kingdom.
-A valid visa or residency for one of the’Schengen area.
-A permanent residence in Chilein Colombia or to Peru (members of the Pacific Alliance).

Many citizens, including Europeans, are not concerned by obtaining an electronic visa or the standard visa issued by an embassy. The duration of stay must not exceed 180 days, and visa-free travel is possible for tourism, business, transit, medical or study purposes.

The visa issued by the Mexican embassy in your country of residence is a procedure still in force for certain nationalities. In other words, travellers are required to go to the embassy to obtain a paper visa, which is affixed to your passport prior to travel. We recommend that you check the appropriate entry formalities, depending on your nationality and validity of your travel documents.
