Somalia has just launched a electronic visa application system aimed at simplifying entry procedures, reinforcing security and modernizing migration management. This new system, Electronic Visa and Travel Authorisation System (E-Visa/eTAS)has been available since September 1, 2025 via a dedicated online portal.
How e-Visa/eTAS works
All travelers will now have to submit their entry request online before arriving in SomaliaThis will speed up processing, reduce delays and improve the overall efficiency of the process. According to Isxaaq Hassan Taakow, Director of the Department of Foreigners and Entry Permits, the system incorporates automatic controls to ensure optimal operation, and a specialized team has been formed to ensure its secure management. The cost of the e-visa is estimated at 64 USD.
Which travellers are affected?
All nationalities are eligible for the electronic visa (eTAS).. It is therefore advisable for all travellers to Somalia to apply online. Before your planned departure, the e-visa must have been approved by the authorities, and you must have received your travel authorization. The system is available for adults and children. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months.
The program does not apply to certain visitors, including holders of multiple-entry visas, diplomatic or UNLP passports, beneficiaries of a residence permit, and citizens of countries benefiting from a visa exemption with Somalia.
Is visa on arrival still available?
All nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival valid for 30 days.if arriving by air only. Entry to Somalia must be from the following airports:
- Garoonka Diyaaradaha ee Bender Qaasim, Bosaso
- General Mohamed Abshir International Airport, Garowe
- Abdullahi Yusuf International Airport, Gaal Kacyo
- Mogadishu International Airport
- Kismayo International Airport
